Writer's Workshop-

"Euphemism, oxymoron, personification...."these are just a few of the words that you would hear floating around our writer's workshop class.  We are currently learning about figurative language and how it can be incorporated into our writing.  The students seem to  enjoy coming up with examples of their own!  We have spent the last few weeks working on dialogue as well as using correct punctuation.  We will be continuing to review this skill over the next few weeks. Stories that use dialogue between characters have been the focus of student writing.  Their stories will be due next week.

Students need to continue studying their buzzwords as well as the definitions for the figures of speech.

Reader's Workshop-

We are currently reading Gathering Blue by Lois Lowry.  We have enough books for one class...so we will be doing all of the reading in class.  Since the main character in the story is a gifted weaver, we will be creating a "tapestry" as a class which will be diplayed in the Delaware Art Museum in the spring.  Ms. Dillon and I are working towards integrating art into the language arts curriculum throughout the year in order to help solidify the connections that students can make from the novels to their own lives.  I am so excited about this project and am looking forward to the growth that will take place within the class.  Ask your student about their project!

Please keep your binders organized and agenda books in your backpacks.  It is imporant that you write all of your assignments in your agenda book each day so that you do not what you have to do for homework!

Also...my homeroom is in need of supplies.  Any donations of paper towels, baby wipes, clorox wipes, and/or tissues would be greatly appreciated!
