Hello Families,
I just wanted to take this time to once again thank all of you for a wonderful year and to thank you again for my class gift and all the other gifts that were given to me. I know you will have a wonderful time in 1st grade and wish each of you success. If I can be of any help throughout the year please don't hesitate to contact me.
Mrs. Schlee (Cole's Mom) took many pictures of field day and graduation. It is my hope to order these pictures and create a dvd for the children. Until then if you would like me to forward you a copy, please send me an e-mail and I will forward the link to you.
Enjoy your summer!
June 6th
Hello Families,
We have finally come to the end of the year. Wow! How time did fly! I have a couple of reminders and activities to make you aware of to help us get through our last week.
Relay For Life- I will be walking with the other survivors in the Relay For Life at Silver Lake Elementary School. If your student is available to walk with me this evening I would love for them to join me.
Monday- Camping Day - students should bring in a flashlight if they have one. We will be making tents during our reading time and will read with a flashlight during reading.
Wednesday – Beach Day – students may bring in a towel, sun visor, or shades to wear during our reading time. Students will also be bringing home many of their year end projects along with special gifts from their teachers. Please be on the look out.
Thursday - Field Day - Each kindergarten class will participate in different field activities between the hour of 1:30-2:30. Our team colors are lavender and light blue. I am asking for the students to wear either color. You can purchase a colored T-Shirt from Michael's Craft store or AC Moore. The shirts usually cost about $5.00 sometimes cheaper. Please bring the shirts in by Monday morning so that we may add our team name to them. I am not sure if we will be allowed to wear the shirts all day but will let you know.
Thursday – Kindergarten Celebration – We will have our celebration beginning at 6:30p.m. Students may wear anything but jeans please.
Friday – Last Day of School – Picnic celebration – Students will bring a bag lunch and blanket to sit on the grass and enjoy a picnic. Parents are invited to come out and celebrate with us. We will begin around 10:30a.m. Dismissal is at 12:30p.m.
Please remember to send in your pillowcase by Monday. I will not be able to accept any more pillowcases after Monday.
Please return any AR books that are still outstanding. Also, this was the last week for the reading logs. Students are encouraged to continue reading daily but do not need to log it.
Thanks for a great year and have a great week!

Hello Families,
I just wanted to extend an invitation to the students in my class to join me this Friday at Relay For Life here in Middletown at Silver Lake Elementary. I am a cancer survivor and will be walking around the track that evening and would love for the students to come and walk with me.
Also, next Thursday is Field Day. Each class will participate in different field activities between the hour of 1:30-2:30. We try to have each class dress in team colors. Because our class name deals with ocean animals, I thought we could wear light blue and lavender to help resemble the ocean water. I am asking for the students to wear either color. You can purchase a colored T-Shirt from Michael's Craft store or AC Moore. The shirts usually cost about $5.00 sometimes cheaper. Anyone who will not be able to make this purchase please let me know ASAP so that I can make other arrangements.
Please remember to send in your pillowcase. Thanks have a great week!

Please forward or send in a disc of any pictures that you may have taken to help with the powerpoint. If you can send it in as soon as possible I would appreciate that. Also, please send in your pillowcases by June 9th. Thanks again. Have a great day!

Please note the new sight words are posted in the flash cards.
Look What’ve learned:
We are coming into our last full month of school. Where did the time go? This week was enjoyable. We talked about frogs and toads. The students each wrote two things they learned about frogs that they didn’t know before. You can see our display in the hallway. In art the students created a life cycle of a frog.
In math we continue to learn subtraction. In language arts we learned compound words and how two words can be put together to make one big word. Ask your student to tell you some compound words. This was second week student helpers from the 4th grade came down to join us during reading time. The students are broken into different groups and listen to 4th graders read to them. All of the students have enjoyed working together.
Today representatives from Bellevue State Park visited with us today. They explained to us about nature, trees, wood and paper. We got to experience making homemade paper. Students will be bringing home their homemade paper next week.
Next week is Charter School Week. The school has scheduled many activities throughout the week. Monday is our kick off so we’re asking if all students would wear red or yellow colored shirts. Tuesday evening our students will have their Spring Fine Arts Night, 6:30-7:30p.m. Two students from our class will be doing solos. Friday students are allowed to dress out of uniform. Please make sure it is school appropriate, no bumpers.
Forms were sent home last week in regards to your student choosing a special person to invite to our tea on Tuesday. For those students that didn’t return a form we asked them to name a special person for us so that we could complete our activity. Please ask your student who they’ve chosen so that they may join us on Tuesday. The tea will begin at 2p.m.
Volunteers:
If you have a day off or time to spare during the hour of 12:15p.m. -1p.m., please feel free to come up and help with our recess time. You don’t need to schedule this time.
Looking Ahead:
May 12th – Field trip
May 26th – No School, Memorial Day

Our starfish student of the week is Angela. Angela is 5 years old. She was born in the month of July. She wants to be a mom when she grows up. "No one knows that I want to be a mom when I grow up. I am a good friend because my brother loves me. If I could have a wish, I would wish for a car."
Dr. Suess Birthday was on March 2nd. We celebrated by reading many of Dr. Suess story books. We created our own cleaning machine like Cat in the Hat did and redesigned his hat. The Student Government Association came down and read their favorite Dr. Suess book to us. They also played a couple games with us. It was lots of fun.
Language Arts Skills learned - Story elements - (characters, problem, solution), opposites, rhyming, letter sounds (beginning, middle and ending), word families -it, -id, sight word review, writing sentences (using inventive spelling).
Math - recognizing the coins penny and nickel. Students counted pennies by 1's and nickels by 5's.
In Science this week we studied wind. Students started the process of making a wind sock and kite. We will complete them next week and see who's wind item will fly the highest.
Homework: Please note: the homework contract is apart of the weekly homework. Also, if your student is a part of the challenge team, they will not receive a charm if they have not submitted sentences or a story using the words.
Monday - March 10th. Report cards go home.
Spring Break begins March 21st - March 28th. There is no school Friday, March 21st, however, any parent wishing to have a conference for their student on this day may contact me through e-mail or your students communication log. I will be able to see you between 8:30-11:00.

Let me apologize for not updating this web page. I think I'm back on track now and you can search here again for monthly words and news.
Our starfish of the week is Olivia. Olivia was born in the month of December. She is 6 years old. No one knows that she likes to bake with her mom. When she grows up, she wants to be a Pet Doctor. "I'm a good friend because I am polite to people. If I could make a wish, I would wish that I could do whatever I want!"
This week we enjoyed learning about our teeth and the importance of brushing and seeing the Dentist. In math we've continued studying money and their value. For a challenge we've added values together to get a total. In computers, students enjoyed playing math blaster on the computer to review math skills.
We've completed our book! It is on it's way to the publisher and we look forward to our published copy. We will be putting a copy of the book in the school library for others to read. In reading, we played numerous bingo games to help with our reading skills.
In art, students used tooth brushes to paint a rotten colored tooth to look clean and white again.
Rocky Blue Winkle from the Blue Rocks Baseball Team came to read to us.
Students will be participating in a reading program to win 2 tickets to a Blue Rocks baseball game. Students will read 10 books and log the name of the book onto the given bookmark. Once the student has read their 10 books they will return the bookmark to be sent to the Blue Rocks. Look for more information to follow.
Please continue reading with your student daily. 15 minutes of your time in the morning or the evening is sufficient per day. Students will begin in two weeks choosing books from the school library to bring home. Please remember to return the book on library days or sooner. Library is every "A" day.
