During the month of November we will be praying for All Souls of those who have gone before us. Talk to your children about family members they may not know about and pass along their stories, this is how we all stay connected.
1. Service Project - 8th Grade - We spiritaully adopted a baby that is in danger of abortion and we will be praying for these babies throughtout the year.We are collecting new baby items to be donated to The Bayard House at the end of the month. Please have your child help out at home to earn the money to purchase a needed item.A representative from The Bayard House will be speaking to the 8th grade students on November 10th. At that time we will be presenting them with all of the gifts we have collected for them. If your child has not yet participated in our service project please encourage them to do so.
3. Vetern's Day - Nov.11th - We will be having a vetern come to speak to our classes.
4. High School applications will be sent home for the Catholic High School entrance test. These will need to be returned to school by Nov.7, 2008
5. Check winter uniform options carefully. If you are in need of St. Matthew gym clothes please contact Mrs. Pedicone for an order form.
8th Grade
Now is when you should be looking to schedule your visits to the various high schools.Try to use days when you are not testing or have projects due. Applications for the Catholic High Schools will be given out in October. If you are interested in Salesianum or Ursaline you need to contact the school directly for an application. Vo-Tech applications will be handled through the guidance department, more information to follow at a later time.
7th Religion & 8th Religion
Our classes for the month are focusing on the rosary. We just completed a project. The Blessed Trinity and relationships with different groups of people. All 7th grade students should know the Hail Holy Queen Prayer. Prayer cards were given out the 2nd week of school. Please review at home together. All 8th grade students should know the Memorare as prayer cards were given to them the 2nd week of school also. This is a wonderful prayer to say together as a family.
8th Math
We are currently working on percents. This concept is great for a good deal of reinforcement at home with activities around the house. A gentle reminder that homework is a very important part of knowing a skill and practicing it. Failure to complete assignments will have an effect on grades. Homework is done on loose leaf paper unless otherwise noted by the teacher.ALL WORK MUST BE SHOWN.These requirements are not optional.
7th Math
Our class is currently working on addition and subtraction of whole numbers and decimals. Please practice borrowing with your child at home. Homework is very important for the complete understanding of the skills taught. Please ask your child to see math occassionally so that you can see what we are doing. It should be neatly done in pencil.
Remember the unborn and those in danger of abortion in your prayers during this time.God's blessings on you always.Pray for the souls of the dear departed.
