Bateman’s Beavers’ Gazette  November 2008

Thank you for all of your hard work this first quarter. Our students have shown themselves to be quality students and kind friends.

Thank you to Dimitri's mom who shared a wonderful presentation with the students about Greece. Unfortunately, I had to miss it due to a school meeting, but Dimitri gave a nice summary.

We are also looking forward to having Tahirah's dad and Tansy's mom come in. Hannah's grandmother, a former teacher who is now a nurse, will also be conducting a germ lesson for us.

Upcoming events:
19 Nov. Heritage projects due
[While the school note for (adult)'Heritage presenters' specified that 'No food may be given to students', our Heritage project packet still had one line, which should have been deleted, about permitting food samples. I apologize for any confusion this may have caused.]

*Due to special circumstances, which were expressed in a note sent by our school nurse at the start of the year, the following policy is still in effect.

ATTENTION:

NO FOOD, other than individual snacks & student lunch boxes, CAN BE BROUGHT IN TO OUR CLASSROOM OR SERVED TO OUR STUDENTS WITHOUT 24 HOURS NOTICE AND A cc: TO OUR SCHOOL NURSE.

THANK YOU FOR UNDERSTANDING.

SINCERELY, BATEMAN’S BEAVERS

This includes any birthday items which are not brought in prior to the start of lunch (12:25 so that the nurse can make calculation of sugar content), will have to be bagged and taken home with each child.

Many of you have been so generous with sharing extra snack supplies for those who forget, and bringing in special surprise treats. If you feel led to send in a 'just because' treat; non-food items like pencils, stickers, erasers, etc. are always a nice option.

Also, if these items are to be presented at the end of the day, we do have THREE extra students who join us at that time, so we would not want to leave them out, and please remember that our end of the day in the classroom is at 2:45, then we are being dismissed after 'Encore/Specials' at 3:30 from a different location each day.
Thank you again for understanding the importance for making our classroom safe and healthy for all.

Other dates coming up:
20 Nov. Heritage Night 7pm
      [Heritage project presentations]
25 Nov. Fall festival craft & story activity (in class)
26 Nov. early release day 12:15 (lunch will be consumed in class 11:10)
27 & 28 Nov.~Thanksgiving Holiday
          (School resumes Dec. 1st)

Happy Birthday this month to Ryan and Stephen. Both students are ready for our class to resume kickball~on the (softer) grassy field.

The Friday folder also contains a weekly conduct and work habits review sheet which parents are to sign and return each week.

Students are expected to read at least 15-20 minutes per night. **Please initial the reading log daily (this is on the right hand side of the daily Panther folder, & stays in the folder until the teacher replaces it with the following month's calendar). the latter part of our lunch time,(12:30-1:00). Currently, there are 22 students in our class. Please let me know ahead of time if you plan to bring a snack. Also, handing out party invitations at school is not permitted unless ALL students in the class are invited. Thank you for understanding.

VERY IMPORTANT:If there is ever a change in your child’s transportation status to or from school, please send a note in so that we can let the office know. This also includes any early dismissal plans so we may have your child and his/her materials ready when you arrive. We have 'Encore/Specials' the last portion of the day, and will be in various locations throughout the buidling with our backpacks at dismissal time.

Read the school newsletters and check our web site regularly in order to be aware of what activities are taking place. We have a wonderful PTA and hope that your family can participate.

Our guidelines for success are simple: Work hard, be kind, and always do your best.

Stay in touch. Mrs. Bateman   batemaal@pwcs.edu , or call (703) 753-7741 and leave a message. I will get back to you as soon as possible. I check my email and teacher mailbox before school, during lunch (if time permits), and after school.
