If you create an act, you create a habit. If you create a habit, you create character. If you create
character,  you create a destiny. - Andre Maurois, French author (1885-1967)

From Mrs. Fisher
THANKS TO ALL PARENTS, STUDENTS, AND STAFF FOR PARTICIPATING IN A SUCCESSFUL YEAR. This is my last newsletter for the 2007-2008 school year. I wish you and your family a restful, relaxing and exciting summer. This year has been filled with challenges, change, lots of learning, and excitement for everyone in our school community. Once again, Mountain View has shown determination, perseverance, and pride in our fabulous school! See you again in the fall.

Last Week Important Information
During the last week of school, each grade level will be having their end of year celebrations. We will continue to keep our students safe by following Prince William County Regulations concerning parent pick up of children. We DO NOT encourage you to take your children out before the end of the school day. Under extraordinary circumstances, if it becomes necessary to leave with your student, you must sign them out with the teacher.

Clinic News – Rising 6th graders must have their Tdap booster if they are 11 years old or if 5 years have passed since their last tetanus shot.  Please make an appointment to receive the booster or your child will not be able to enter a Prince William County middle school in September.

Watch for the Postcard!  - Classroom Assignments
You will receive a postcard around August 23rd from your child’s new teacher for next year. We hope to see you on August 28th for Kindergarten Orientation and/or “Meet the Teacher” evening.

“Meet the Teacher” at 5:00 pm - Thursday, August 28th parents and children may come for an informal visit to the classrooms. There will be no formal presentations and individual conferences will not be held during this time. Please keep in mind that for this event teachers will still be putting their rooms together and they will be dressed very casually. We just want to give the students an opportunity to meet their teachers and see the room before the first day of school. We will have our regular Back-to-School Nights in September at which time the teachers will go over their program and objectives for the school year.

Olweus Bullying Prevention - We will be kicking off our Olweus Bullying Prevention Plan on August 28 when students “Meet the Teacher”.  Mountain View Elementary School faculty and administration will be diligently working to further prevent bullying, making our school a positive place for students to learn and develop.  Early intervention, in the primary years, is critical for setting the foundation for positive social behavior that will last a lifetime.

During the 2008-2009 school year, Mountain View Elementary School will make one such commitment through the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program.  Its goals are to reduce and prevent bullying problems among school children and to improve peer relations.  Olweus is the most widely recognized bullying prevention program in the world and has been used in more than a dozen countries.  Schools who have implemented the Olweus have documented:
-up to 70% reduction in student reports of being bullied and bullying others
-significant reductions in student reports of general antisocial behaviors such as vandalism, fighting, and truancy
-significant improvements in the social climate of the classroom and student satisfaction with school life
Throughout the next school year, we will continuously update you on our intervention plans and progress.

Cafeteria News – The mylunchmoney.com service for prepayments into cafeteria accounts will not be available after June 12, 2008 for this school year.  Parents using the “Smart Pay” option may want to cancel the smart pay option prior to June 12 if they do not want a prepayment generated at the end of the school year.  Any student leaving Prince William County Schools should contact the cafeteria regarding a refund.  Mylunchmoney.com will be available August 18, 2008 for the 2008-2009 school year.  A reminder that cash or checks are also accepted as prepayments in the cafeteria.

Guidance News – To all 4th and 5th Grade Parents – Just a reminder that you are welcomed to preview the 15 minute video about the changing body that will be shown to all 4th and 5th graders on June 9 (boys and girls separately).  If you would like to preview the video before that date, please call the school at 703-754-4161 to set up a time and day.

Clinic News – If your child has medication in the clinic please make arrangements to pick it up or the medication will be disposed of by Mt.
