Welcome to First Grade 2008-2009!

Our Daily Schedule:
9:15-12:00 Reading
12:00-12:15 Science
12:15-12:30 Recess
12:30-1:00 Lunch
1:00-1:15 Science
1:15-2:45 Math
2:45-3:25 Social Studies
3:25 Dismissal

Specials
*This year specials will all take place on the same day to allow teachers the opportunity the plan effectively.
*Each grade has their “Specials Day” every six days on a rotating schedule. These days will be listed on your child’s homework/behavior sheet. On this day, students should dress appropriately for P.E.
*Students will also have an extra Music and an extra P.E. class within their six day cycle. This will be listed for you on the homework/behavior sheet as well.

In reading we are focusing on short a words, and making predictions about the test.  We are also studying various text features which include the title, characters, setting, and beginning, middle and end.  We will have spelling words this week and the test will be every Friday.

In math we are learning how to add and subtract.  
We are working on chapter 3.  You can access your child's textbook online:

The focus for the Month of November is Poetry

We will complete several activities that will allow us to identify various types of poems and we will write a poem of our own!

Each assignment will count as a weekly reading quiz, unless otherwise specified.
