-As always, please ensure that your child reads aloud to you for at least 15 minutes every day.  Discuss with them what they have read, checking to ensure that they understood what they read.

* When your child reads to you, help them to improve their comprehension by asking the questions about what they have just read.  Ask them to retell the story to you in their own words, giving as much detail and telling you as much as they possibly can.  Ask them who the (main) characters were, what was the setting (when, where), did they enjoy the story and why/why not.  Ask them if there was anything that they didn't understand in the story, and if there was, ask them what they did/should have done to clarify it.  Help them to make a connection to the text by asking them if any of the characters in the story reminded them of themselves, or if any of the events or pictures in the book reminded them of something that has happened in their lives.  Help them to make a connection to other texts by asking them if the story/book reminds them of another one.
