Students in grades 3-4-5-6 have just started a Tennis Unit. Students will learn forehand strike, backhand stroke and hitting tennis balls to partners over the net. They also will learn various terms, scoring and parts of the racket.
Grades k-1-2 will be using paddleball rackets and wiffle balls and possibly tennis rackets. They will learn to hit the ball with the racket and hit the ball over the net. On inclement P.E. days student will be using balloons and various other manipulatives to improve on their striking skills.
On Friday, May 22, 2009 Calverton had their field day which was a huge success. Students in grades k-6 participated in fun filled activities. Everyone had a great time and it was a great day for all. Thanks so much for the volunteers that helped at field day.
To maintain safe and active participation for your child during PE class, students should wear TENNIS SHOES. Students may change from boots etc., into their tennis shoes during PE class. Please avoid sandals and slide on tennis shoes with no backs.
Students should dress appropriately for Physical Education. This includes wearing belts when necessary. Girls should wear shorts or long pants underneath skirts or dresses.
