WHAT WE ARE LEARNING
Kindergarten – Realistic Zebra
Objective – Students will learn how to draw a zebra using basic shapes….circles, ovals and rectangles. They will learn that all drawings and objects start by putting together basic shapes. Students will decorate zebras and create a jungle background.
First – Hot Dog - Cool Cat
Objective – Students will learn about warm and cool colors. They will also learn how to draw a cat and a dog using basic geometric shapes. This week they will draw their cats and dogs.
Second – Up close Snowman
Objective – Students will learn to “zoom” in on an object and draw it up close. They will rely on cropping to exaggerate there drawing. This week they will draw the body of the snowman and paint it in.
Third – Ringgold’s Tar Beach
Objective – Students will become familiar with Faith Ringgold ( African American artist) and her works, especially her book Tar Beach. They will begin to brainstorm on a favorite memory they will illustrate using the style of Ringgold.
Fourth – African Masks
Objective – Students will learn about masks and there long history and importance in various cultures. They will examine (pictures & video) different African masks and understand there uses. Students will begin to create/draw their own mask
Fifth – Black History Stamps
Objective – Students will learn about 3 African American artists. They will read bio’s and examine their works. Students will choose one artist that they will create a commemorative stamp for. This week they will begin to draw the portrait of their chosen artist.
Sixth – Medieval Church
Objective – Students will learn about one point perspective. They will also learn about and examine pictures of the Medieval churches of England. They will begin to draw the basic foundation of a church using one point perspective.
Seventh – Chuck Close Portraits
Objective – Students will become familiar with artist Chuck Close. They will choose a person whom they will create a portrait of in the style of Close. This week they will begin to create a graph for their portrait.
Eighth – 3-D Architectural Letters
Objective – Students will be introduced to their new lesson. Students will construct a 3-D letter using one of their initials. The surface will be decorated with descriptive words and images that are personal and meaningful to them. This week they will begin to construct letter.
