Notes to Studens and parents:

Course Syllabus and Classroom Policy:
All students were given the World History course syllabus and classroom information packet, which required a return  achknowledgment by both the parent and student at the start of the school.  All students are required to keep the packet in their possession until the end of the school year. Please refer to the syllabus for most general questions about course assignments, class-home work policies and general information.

Classroom Instructional Style:
The classroom style is a discussion-lecture.  It requires that students come to class prepared (Reading-& Note Taking Assignments completed)with their notes and prepared to discuss the prior reading-note taking assignment.

Primary Homework Assignment:
The Reading & Note taking homework assignments are the primary homework assignment for the students and are subject to unannounced checks. Students were given a whole year Reading-Note Taking Assignment at the start of the school year so.  Students should take notes based on their reading assignment in a spiral notebook and bring the notebookand their textbook to class each time we meet.

Changes to the Reading-Note taking Assignments will be posted at the end of this notice.

Course Progress Reort and Report Cards:
Students are given a "Student Summary, " prior to and just before, sheet that identifies their tentative grade for pre-Progress/Report Cards are issued. The progress and final grade for the quarter can be found on the Internet website.

Please ask your child for their copy of the 'Student Summary" to review or ask them for their student number and the assigned pass number (usuable from anyother classroom) by going to the internet site:

All students have given a webgrade pass number to access the grades and completed works.  Please get the student identification number and webgrade pass number from your child.  If they have forgotten it, please e-mail me from this site for access.

Grades in General:

Reference to Low Grade:
Most low grades are due to students not having done their homework assignments (primary notes taken from their reading-note taking assignments before class) and failure to turn in assignments.  Students are also observed not using notes with quizzes and tests.
    
Parents, please work with your child at home so that he/she may complete theri primary reading & note taking assignments and are prepared for next day's class.

Late work will not be accepted.

In addition, many students do not record their homework assignments or homework due dates.  Parents, please get your child a an Agenada Book for them to use.

WORLD HISTORY STUDENTS:

Up-Date:  5-1-08

Homework:
Most homework assignments are reading and note taking assignments in World History.  You should be using a single subject Spiral Notebook to maintain your reading notes and class lectures. The notebook is used inconjunction with daily warm-up, some quizzes and tests.

Quizzes and Tests:
Most quizzes are unannounced and maybe used to check on homework assignmnent(reading-note taking) completion. You need your reading assignment notes to use with some of these quizzes and tests. Without reading notes, you cannot get a good grade.

Geography:
Knowing geography is an important part of World History. Students have been given a first semester list of geographic features to remember and country requirement for the second semester.  Each week, there will be a quiz on some aspect of the list based on the semester requirements.

Students should have the general physical features assignment already plotted on maps provided as a study tool. However, it is the student responsible to know the geographical features and countries found on the list.

Note-Taking Course:
A Reading-Note Taking class and exercises has been given to the students 10-02 to 10-11-07, to ensure that students know how to take individual notes.

Students are required to bring their textbook to class.

A. Effective 2-22-08, the following is the amended Student Reading & Note Taking Homework Assignment schedule for Mr. Ernst’s World History classes.  
B. Students are reminded that this schedule reflects the major homework assignment, which is reading and note taking assignments.  Students are to read, prepared individual notes (in their spiral notebook), and to bring the spiral notes and textbook for class on the class days   Spiral notebooks maybe subject to unannounced collection and graded as writing assignment/homework. (See student handout-Note Taking – Oct 2007 class).
C. Where indicated as – Individual Study it is the responsibility of the student to be prepared for class with individual notes and questions.

he mid-quarter Progress Reports will be released by 11-30-07.  Students will be given a tentative grade information sheet " Student Summary"  pior to the Progress Report and a changed "Student Summary" prior to the end of the quarter Report Card. The "Student Summary" is given to indicate any differences to the submitted Progress Report grade.

Please ask your child for their copy of the 'Student Summary" to review or go to the internet site (indicated in this notice)to check.  it will answer many questions concerning their grade.
