                                       THIRD QUARTER GUIDE

1.Text: Prentice Hall Chemistry (2005)
2.All students will summarize 5 articles/journals related to science per quarter (100 Pts.)
3.Writing assignments (BCR questions)will continue to be assigned periodically and in addition 1 critical reading and writing assignment will be given.
4. 2nd/3rd Quarter project; Science Fair Project. Informational worksheet on the project has been distributed to students. Students can to pair up to complete the project.
5. laboratory and class activities will be based on the concepts taught in class
6.Students must come to class with textbooks, study workbook and  3-ring note binder
7. Academic dishonesty is taken very seriously at Laurel high School as we are committed to providing a high  quality learning experience for our students.
8. Tests, Quizzes and Exams make up 50% of your grade, while classwork, homework,research,Lab. work, teacher demonstrations, summaries, writing assignmets make up the other 50%.
9. Regular attendance and submiting assigned work when due, will help you achieve success in the chemistry class. (Classroom procedures, school policies and consequences of not following rules was explained in the first week of school.
10. Quizzes will be given every week and you will be informed before hand.
11. Please note that all chemistry students are expected to complete a science project which is due for submission on or before January, 18. Under no condition will late work be given credit. Students can submit project up until the 18th of January, 2008. If students will not be in school that day, submission should be made earlier than the 18th.
12. If you are absent see me during Spartan Hour the next day you are in school.

CONCEPTUAL PHYSICS

ALL STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO COME TO CLASS WITH TEXT BOOK, LOG BOOK, AND PEN,PENCIL,METRIC RULER AND A SIMPLE CALCULATOR. THE CLASS IS AN ACTIVITY BASED ONE AND STUDENTS ARE EXPECTED TO PARTICIPATE FULLY AND COMPLETE ALL ACTIVITIES IN LOG BOOK. TEST AND QUIZZES ACCOUNT FOR 50% OF GRADE.
YOU WILL BE EVALUATED BASED ON THE QUALITY OF YOURLOG BOOK ENTRIES, TEST AND QUIZZES, QUALITY OF YOUR CHAPTER
CHALLENGE PROJECTS.

Challenge:  Students are challenged to provide the voice-over on a sports video that explains the physics of the action as an audition for the job of sports broadcaster on PBS.
Students can also carry out the challenge activity as discussed in class.

HOMEWORK WILL CONSIST OF ASSIGNED PHYSICS TO GO QUESTIONS AT THE END OF EACH ACTIVITY.
THE CHAPTER CHALLENGE FOR THE QUARTER WILL CONSIST OF;

Chapter challenge/Project will be discussed in class.
Rubrics for the project will be discussed and distributed in class.
Regular attendance and participation in class activities will ensure success in the course.
