        BIOLOGY/ANATOMY AND PHYSIOLOGY COURSE OUTLINE

THIS PAGE CONTAINS INFORMATION FOR BOTH MY CLASSES- BIOLOGY AND ANATOMY&PHYSIOLOGY.

CLASS REQUIREMENTS:
1. One notebook (3 ring binder)
   Sections in your notebook
   * Warmup section
   * Classwork section
   * Homework section
2. Pencils( Should be sharpened before the class    
   begins), and Pen.
3. A box of colored pencils (Sharpened)
4. Eraser
5. Ruler

IMPORTANT:
PLEASE BE SEATED AS SOON AS YOU GET TO CLASS AND START WORKING ON YOUR WARMUP.

TESTS AND QUIZZES SHALL BE ANNOUNCED WELL IN ADVANCE. PLEASE LOOK AT THE CLASSROOM BLACKBOARD FOR LATEST UPDATES.

A GRADE PRINTOUT MAY BE GIVEN UPON REQUEST.

TOPICS GIVEN BELOW MAY BE SUBJECT TO CHANGE UPON TEACHERS DISCRETION.
  

BIOLOGY:

QUARTER I:
Given here are the units that shall be covered during the first quarter. These units will also have lab activities.

Basic Science skills and processes-
*Safety in the class and lab.
*Scientific Method.
*Graphing
Basic Biochemistry- Structure of an atom, bonding,    
elements.
* Water- polarity, densityand solvent.
*PH scale
Macromolecules (Organic molecules)- Carbohydrates, Proteins, Lipids, and nucleic acids.
*Vitamins and Minerals (Inorganic Molecules)
Enzymes- Function, effect of temperature, pH on
activity of enzymes.

TESTS & QUIZZES:
1. Safety and Lab equipment
2. Scientific Method
3. Basic biochemistry.
(Please note all tests will be on the HSA pattern.)

QUARTER II:

Begining quarter II the following topics will be discussed in class. Labs, workbook assignments, quizzes, tests, etc. will be part of the curriculum.

Topics:
* Cell Structure and Function- Prokaryotes & Eukaryotes, Cell theory, Cell organelles and their functions, microscope parts and functions, making a wet mount slide, compare between a plant and animal cell.
* Cell Transport- Structure and function of the cell membrane, Diffusion, Osmosis,Active & Passive transport, types of solutions.
* Photosynthesis & Respiration- role of chloroplast and mitochondria, chemical reactions in both processes, similarities and differences between photosynthesis and respiration.
* cell Division (Mitosis & Meiosis)- mechanism of cell division, phases of both types of cell division, comparision of  both types of cell division.

5. Medical terminology related to body parts- Project.
6. Diseases- Types and sources- Lab activity.
7. Science Fair Project

QUARTER II:
