**November reading logs can be turned in on November 30. They will also be accepted December 1 but not after that day. **See the end of the newsletter for a reminder of science fair due dates. Reading/Writing: We will be closing up our selection titled The Talking Cloth. We will have a spelling test and a selection test on Tuesday. We will get guidelines for our next writing assignment on Monday. The assignment will be to write instructions. This will not be due until Wednesday 12/2 and it is A CLASSWORK assignment. Students are expected and required to have all writing materials in class each day so that the writing process can be worked on in class. Students are encouraged to seek editing and revising advice from home but need to bring their journals to school or they will be expected to start from the beginning of the process in class. We will also work on identifying details, contractions and rhyming words. We will begin a new selection on Thursday. This new selection is titled Dancing Rainbows. We will use the monitor/clarify reading stragey while reading this selection. Our spelling words during this selection will have the long I sound. We will focus on identifying the topic, main idea and supporting details throughout different selections.
Math: In math, we will make bar graphs and use line plots to organize data. We will have a test on Friday that will cover last week's skills as well as this week's skills. All students should know how to read tall charts, pictographs, bar graphs, line plots and how to make these as well prior to Friday's test.
Science: We will continue with chapter 7 and discover how rocks form, what minerals are and why soil is important. Chapter 7 test will be on Tuesday the 24th (day before Thanksgiving break).
Social Studies: We will practice distinguishing between fact and opinion while collecting facts about Indianapolis (one of the stops on the Underground Railroad). We will also learn about Harriet Tubman and understand what makes her a good example of a leader.
