Hi! Welcome to the ART Room's school notes page!  I am amazed at how quickly the school year has gone.

I had the opportunity last week to work with all of the classes on the birdhouses we created in celebration of Earth Week.  These birdhouses will be used for our future butterfly garden.  The children did an amazing job on the birdhouses!  Each of the birdhouses is unique and was designed and created by the entire class!  During each class, we brainstormed ideas for their birdhouses; then we voted on our favorite.  We also voted on which birdhouse we would use for our creation.  Once the birdhouse and the design and the colors were decided upon, we formed an "assembly line".  All of the children lined up around the tables.  They each took turns dipping their index finger into the paint, dotting their paint onto the birdhouse, wiping their finger off and joining the end of the line.  We continued to take turns, again and again, until the entire house was completed.  Pre-K painted a barn; Kindergarten a rainforest; 1st grade created a "party house" complete with balloons; 2nd grade made a coral reef; 3rd, a desert at sunset; 4th painted a white oak, the Maryland state tree; 5th designed a bird; 6th grade imitated Jackson Pollock and his splatter painting; 7th used a rainbow of colors; and 8th grade was feeling patriotic and painted their house red, white and blue.  Each of the birdhouses was "autographed" by the entire class and then blessed at our Earth Week Mass.

We are also in the midst of finishing our art projects that will be auctioned off at our Spring Gala next weekend.  The children are creating a wide range of items from a table to flower boxes and everything in between.  We are creating these in the same manner that we painted the birdhouses: we vote on the item, the theme and the colors, then form our "assembly line" where everyone paints. They will also be autographed by all of the students.

Ask your children about their "finger" painting experiences in art over the last week.  They were very excited with their end results and I was very proud of the job they did.

Warmest Regards,
Mrs. Wilson
