If you emailed me before, please forgive me if I did not respond. I had trouble with both my computer and my online account access and it took a long time to get everything sorted out.
We are in the middle of presenting the lyrics/poetry projects right now. Please ask your children if they are ready to present because if I call a name and that student is not ready or has not done the project, I record a zero for that person and then just continue down the list until I come to someone who has done their work. The project was assigned the week before Thanksgiving and everybody was to have had their presentation ready a week after Thanksgiving break.
Between now and Christmas Break, my classes will be reading "Stopping By the Woods on a Snowy Evening" by Robert Frost; "Reading a Public Notice..." for informative text features; and 'From Harriet Tubman: Conductor of the Underground Railroad' by Ann Petry. Late next week I will probably show a video of a strong narrative for practice identifying the 8 Literary Elements in a story (Ask your kids what the 8 Literary Elements are! They should know by now!) I will assign modest homework tasks over the next week which relate to the above literature.
There is still time for students to raise their progress report grades, but if they do not do a project presentation -- which is worth 100 points -- then it will be very hard to overcome that deficit with the end of the semester so close at hand. Today and tomorrow I will hand out the Winter Break English/Social Studies MSA Review Packet so students can get an early start and finish early if they choose. This assignment is worth a lot of credit as well and students who want to do well or to raise their grade will not miss handing this one in done completely, correctly, and on time.
