FIRST QUARTER ASSIGNMENTS
16.T/Q: 15 Day Assessment #1 (30 pts)
10/6,10/7: Students will be assessed on their
understanding of the cultures of Native Americans
and West Africans as well as the influence of the
Renaissance on the exploration period.
15.CW-Exploration Period (30 pts)
10/6,10/7: Students will examine the travels of
Christopher Columbus and the reactions of Native
Americans in the Americas.
14.CW-Sequencing Events (25 pts)
9/30,10/2: Students will describe how events during
the Renaissance period led to European interest in
Africa and the Americas.
13.PRO-Current Events I: Election 2008 (30 pts)
9/24, 9/25: Students will analyze a current events
article in order to explain the importance of this
year's presidential election. Due: A day (10/2), B
day (10/3)
12.CW-Native American/West African Cultures Chart (25
pts)
9/23,9/24: Students will create a chart in order to
compare the cultures of Native Americans and West
Africa. Finish at home.
11.CW-Preamble Quilt Activity (30 pts)
9/17,9/18: Students will work in groups to
illustrate the meaning of the different parts of=
the Preamble to the U.S. Constitution in
recognition of Constitution Day (9/17).
10.CW-Culture Is... Poster (30 pts)
Students will work in groups to illustrate symbols
of the various elements of culture.
9. PRO-Putting the YOU in History (50 pts)
9/11,9/12: Students will write and present a one
page report about a personal historical artifact.
Due Dates: A Day (9/23) B day (9/22)
8. HW-Unit Two Vocabulary Foldable (20 pts)
9/9,9/10: Students will define and illustrate the
following terms: economy, diaspora, Columbian
Exchange, hacienda, encomienda, conquistador,
subsistence farming, and domestication.
7. T/Q- Unit One Geography Assessment (45 pts)
9/9,9/10: Students will be assessed on their
understanding of basic map skills and geography
terms.
6. HW-World/US Map Foldable (30 pts)
9/3,9/4 and 9/5,9/8: Students will label and world
map with continents, bodies of water, etc. Students
will label a US map with states and color by
regions.
5. CW-K/W/L Chart (15 pts)
9/3,9/4: Students will describe their progress as
we review basic geography and map skills.
4. CW- Student Code of Conduct Poster (20 pts)
8/28,8/29: Students will discuss the COC and create
a poster of positive expectations.
3. CW-Group Contract (15 pts)
8/25,8/26: Students will work with members of their
group to create a contract of expectations to be
signed by each student.
2. CW-Creating America Textbook Activity (10 pts)
8/27,8/28: Students will do an activity to become
more familiar with their classroom textbook.
