This week we will introduce pronouns. The kids really do have a firm grasp on nouns so the introduction of pronouns should be easy. We will be changing nouns into pronouns, changing pronouns into nouns, locating pronouns in sentences, and much more.
Our reading story this is called “Dot and Jabber”. Stories this week pertain to bugs. Our skill this week will be to “use illustrations”.
The phonics sound we will work on the many sounds of /o/. This week we will concentrate on the /oo/, /ou/. Our spelling words will follow the same pattern.
AT HOME:
Please have your child read to you every night for at least 10 – 15 minutes.
Monday: No School
Tuesday: Write spellings words in ABC order and two times each.
In math we will begin our last new concept for the year… adding and subtracting two digit numbers. This is WITHOUT regrouping. The students have already been introduced to this concept through our “problems of the day” in the mornings, but now we will really spend a lot of time making sure we line up our columns and add or subtract correctly.
AT HOME: A worksheet will be sent home most nights to reinforce concepts taught.
Extra Practice: Continue doing addition and subtraction flash cards at home so they can continue working on mastering the basic facts.
RELIGION:
~ In religion we will continue to learn about the Holy Trinity. We will discuss how the holy trinity is one, but with three parts by comparing it to an egg (also one, with three parts). This can be a tricky concept so we will be spending another week on it.
~ Our values this month are honesty and fairness.
SCIENCE/SOCIAL STUDIES:
~In Science with Mrs. Boston the students will be learning about sun, moon, and stars.
~This week in Social Studies, we complete our unit on the Rainforest by discussing ways we can help save our rainforest, recognize how many of our daily products come from the rainforest and of course share our rain forest projects. The kids did an amazing job on these and are so excited to share them in class! Thanks for all your hard work in helping your child learn about their creature it really helped make it a fun learning experience for them.
THINGS TO REMEMBER:
This Friday, May 29th, is our final school liturgy at 10:15. Please join us if you can!
