There are 4 sections to this exam:
I. VOCABULARY/ WORD PARTS: worth 60 points
II. READING STRATEGIES: worth 60 points
III.SSR NOVELS FROM THIS SEMESTER: worth
60 points)
IV. VOCABULARY (in class exam)
FIRST!
Find the worksheets/notes/text pages you need to study for all your content classes (science, English, social studies…) Use only current texts for this exam. Use texts which will help you pass your other final exams.
I. VOCABULARY/ WORD PARTS: (worth 60 points)
• Pick 3 subjects. (i.e. math, English, history,
science)
• Find a minimum of 30 words from your notes this
semester which use one or more of the word parts
we’ve studied this year in reading.
Be sure to record the page number or date of the
text in which you found the word. Use lined
paper. Use the following as an example to set up
your lists. Yes, I will check your textbooks and
your teachers. (example in packet)
II. READING STRATEGIES: (worth 60 points)
Find at least three pages of notes or textbook pages which you need to study for your exams.
A. First, “Talk to the Text” on each of the pages you
choose.
B. Decide how the information on each page is
presented and label each page.
For example, is it…….
• cause/effect
• time order
• compare/contrast
• question/answer
• list/outline
• other- explain
C. Write a separate page of study notes for each page.
NOTE: Yes, you can make flashcards if you will use them for studying. You must give your teacher a copy of each of the original pages.
III. SSR NOVELS FROM THIS SEMESTER: (worth 60 points)
A) Write a list of all the novels you have read so far this semester.
The easy way to do this is to just attach the
record you keep in the class folder.
B) You can choose from the following options to
reflect on your reading this year.
i. Choose three of the best novels you read and
write a review of each, using journal
format. Please be creative. You may combine
all three journals into one, if you are
careful to find a reflection sentence which
will involve all three. Use your reading
journal rubric to guide you. Remember, this
is three journals in one, so you need to be
sure to have at least 3 supports for each book
used.
ii. Make "Facebook" pages for three characters
from three different books who really made an
impression on you (good or bad).
iii. Do you have a better idea? Talk to me and
get permission.
IV. VOCABULARY (in class exam) Yes, you ARE responsible for all of the words!
You will receive this part of the exam in class on the day of the exam.
Be sure to study ALL your vocabulary word parts from the entire year.
