I was so pleased to meet you all during conferences. I am happy to have your children in my classroom. They are wonderful and so much fun to be around.

Thanks so much for the wonderful contributions for our classroom library at the book fair. I was able to choose great books for our library and a set of books that we will add to the 1st grade library for small group reading. You all are great!! Thank you! ļ
ILA: We have begun our second anthology! We will use the stories to learn new skills and strategies in reading fiction and nonfiction text.
Math: Unit 3- We will explore patterns in numbers, telling time, counting money using coins, and practice adding and subtracting.
Writing: We continue to learn about how authors get their ideas. We have chosen a topic to write about and publish in the classroom. We are using our writer¡¦s journals to gather ideas.
Science: We are studying the 5 senses. We will be doing some fun activities with each sense during the next 2 weeks. Be sure to send in the permission slip to ¡§taste¡¨ as soon as you can. Ask about the Oct. 30 feely boxes for our long weekend! They were gross!
Box Top News: We won! We won! We collected the most Box Tops for 1st grade! Our class will be treated to a special prize soon! YIPPEE!!!
Homework News: The children have been doing an awesome job with their homework. They are so responsible!! If a math book or ILA book comes home, please return it on the day it is due. It is easier to keep track of the books if they all come in on the same day.
Classroom Parties:
Each grade level can have 3 parties each year. Our back four classrooms (rooms 5, 6, 7, and 8) in first grade, chose to have a winter, spring, and end of the year party. Our room moms will be in touch in December about the winter celebration. ļ
