Coach’s Corner
It was wonderful to meet so many of you at our annual Open House. I hope it allowed students and parents the opportunity to familiarize themselves with our classroom. Another important date to put on your calendar is the fourth grade Back to School Night on Wednesday, September 10th from 6:30-8:00pm. Due to the amount of information that will be shared it is asked that young children not come on this night.
Our class has a late lunch which allows us the opportunity to have a morning snack. Attached you will find a letter explaining in detail some restrictions we have due to a peanut and tree nut allergy. Please be sure to read this letter carefully so that we can ensure the safety of all students within our classroom.
Monday folders will begin after the Back to School Night. This folder resembles a “mini” progress report to students and parents showing how behavior was throughout the prior week. Important papers that need to be signed are usually sent home in this folder as well. It is to be returned the following day.
Miss Jessica Lidie is our Towson Intern this year. She will be with us the entire first week of school then begin coming on Wednesdays and Thursdays until the middle of October. At this time she will spend time at William Paca/Old Post Road Elementary School. Miss Lidie will come back to begin her full time internship in the middle of March until the beginning of May.
On the back of each monthly newsletter parents will find a calendar indicating important events taking place in our room. All assessments are tentative until formally announced in your child’s homework pad. Dates usually do not stray far from those indicated on the monthly calendar.

Communication
If you wish to contact me, the best way is to write me a note in your child’s homework pad or email me at Connie.Charitonuk@hcps.org. A copy of our monthly newsletters can be found on www.schoolnotes.com. Our class also has a homepage that can be found on www.scholastic.com. Once on this site, go to the class homepage login and type in charitonuk as the class user name. The password is snoopy.
Our class newsletters and homepage are provided to further strengthen the connection to our classroom activities. I hope that parents and students alike take advantage of the information provided in both.
Homework Policy
In fourth grade students are usually given about 40 minutes of homework each night. This does not include any long range projects or studying for assessments in which students are to divvy up their time over many days.
Homework pads are to be signed by a parent each night. This communicates to me that a parent has looked over the assigned work verifying that it is completed. If your child has not completed their work-a parent needs to write a note in the homework stating why it was not completed.
School Supplies
In addition to the fourth grade supply list students in my class will need the following items:
4 composition notebooks
5 folders with brads and pockets (colors: purple, blue, red, yellow, and green)
1- 1/2 inch vinyl floppy 3 ring binder
Our specials this year will be from 9:50-10:40am. Lunch is at 12:18-12:48pm. With it being such a late lunch, students are invited to bring in a healthy snack each day that can be eaten in 5 minutes or less.
