HAPPY FALL EVERYONE!! It's hard to believe that November is here already! The children have been working hard and are becoming fine young musicians! Here are some activities/objectives we will be persuing in November and December.
Kindergartners will be exploring soft/loud dynamics, high/low in melody, and performing steady beats in various holiday songs.
First graders will be working on sound duration (long/short), upward/downward melodic movement, and playing rhythm instruments in holiday songs.
Second graders have been reviewing and practicing the three rhythms they learned in first grade: quarter notes, quarter rests and eighth notes. We have recently added half notes and half rests to our repertoire. We will also be working on phrasing and dynamics in familiar holiday songs. Second graders will also be introduced to ballet by listening to and watching various sections of "The Nutcracker" during December.
I also have the privilege of directing fourth grade chorus this year! They are busy perparing five songs for a wonderful performance at our winter concert which will be at Fallston High School, Wednesday, December 19th at 7:00 pm. Children should wear somewhat dressy clothing. PLEASE...no tennis shoes, jeans, inappropriately short skirts, or high heeled shoes. Something that would be appropriate to wear to church would be fine. A reminder will come home with them in late November.
I'm looking forward to seeing many of you during American Education Week. Please feel free to stop by for a visit.
I hope you have a wonderful, safe and happy holiday season!
