*Intergrated Language Arts-
We'll begin the year by revisiting favorite stories, songs and poems. The children will be expected to understand story elements of these favorites and then identify them in new books and stories. We will also analyze writer's craft and begin to orchestrate out own telling sentences; leading to a personal narrative.
*Everyday Math-
We will begin the first unit of everyday math and continue the spiral of skills. Please be sure to read the school home connections carefully- particularly the unit family letter. These will keep you posted about the secure and developing skills that will enable your child to be a true mathematical thinker.
Social Studies & Science
We will learn about the various types of communities and how to be good citizens. We will pay particular attention to our school community as we try to learn about the people that we’ll work with and school rules.
Writing
We will identify and utilize the appropriate conventions of writing. We will also learn about each component of the writing process.
Self- Selected Reading (SSR)
We will begin to set up routines in the classroom for this time. One of the most important things for the students and parents to focus on is choosing a book that is at their independent level. In class we will learn how to choose just right books, as well as those that we should be reading with our parents or teachers (instructional level).
