The YBES administration obtained approval from the Interim Superintendent to have a substitute come in to take over my duties on the final two days of this school year. I was notified of this decision on Thursday morning (June 11). It was made clear to me that I was not to report to the school either of these two days. What is NOT clear to me is the reason why. Because of this aggressive action, I will not be able to attend the 5th grade graduation program on Friday morning. I will not be able to officially say good bye to my students. This tears me apart. I can not fathom how an administration would do this to a teacher who loved her job and her class so much – despite the obstacles I faced, the hostility I endured with members of the 5th grade team and with the knowledge that my contract to teach was not being renewed after this year . . . another decision made by YBES administration that I don’t fully understand. But what is heart wrenching to me is the effect this will have on my students - your children. We have been together since August and I have established a positive relationship with each of them . . . what will their memory of 5th grade be now? I believe the administration owes my class and their families a full explanation of what transpired this year and what their objective truly was. To me, their actions never have been in the best interest of the students.
They have blocked my access to the school email system so I can not contact you. I am powerless over their actions, but please know that in my “heart of hearts” your child received the best education they could at YBES. I thank you for allowing me the privilege to work with your child and hope the future holds many more blessings for you and your family.
With sincere appreciation,
Mrs. Maureen Eller
