Gator Friends,
Look what we will be doing this week:
Writing: We will discuss what good writers do by revisiting a variety of books. We will start filling our Writer's Notebooks with ideas that we can write about this year. We are getting excited about writing!
Spelling: We will identify long o words that follow patterns. Please find the patterns while you are reading each night. If your child gets stuck on a word while reading, he/she can think about what pattern it follows. Keep reinforcing CVC, CVCe, ee, and ea words.
WHOLE GROUP: We will prepare to read DAYS WITH FROG AND TOAD. We will predict, build background, and understand vocabulary. We will track our thinking as we are reading. Good readers are always thinking about the words on the page and what it means to them. We will infer what the author means to get a deeper understanding of the text. We will also retell the story in order by pulling out the important ideas.
SMALL GROUPS: The Blue Gators will be reading PIG PIG GETS A JOB and the Green Gators will be reading ARTHUR AND THE BIG BLOW-UO. We will reinforce the strategies from whole group in our small groups.
MATH: We will explore place value on the number grid and identify equivalent names for numbers. We will count and look for patterns on the calculator and compare numbers using the symbols (< > =). Keep practicing the skills on the Unit side of the Math folder. Try to keep all Math papers in the Math folder until the unit is over. You will also find Exit tickets in the math folder to review with your child.
HEALTH: We will continue the Here's Looking at You unit with our friend Miranda.
