Important Notes

Our Field Trip is on Tuesday. We look forward to seeing all of you who are able to accompany us. Mrs. De Mey will send home more information reminding you when we have to leave and when we will return.

Field Day is scheduled for Thursday, June 4. This is our rain date, so keep your fingers crossed. Mrs. Gallagher has put a lot of work into making this event a success for our children.

Students are completing their novels during reading. Groups will complete a culminating activity together, once their books are completed.

Fourth graders will have their Decimals Unit test on Wednesday. We will review on Monday.

All grade levels will have spelling this week. The test will be on Friday. This is our final week of spelling.

We are continuing to write poetry. Students wrote an apology poem last week. Students also identified onomatopoeia and used it in a poem. Students will write concrete poetry, also known as shape poetry. Students will continue to read and enjoy poetry.

Students will continue to study slavery and the Civil War during social studies. We have been creating a portfolio of our assignments during this unit. I will use these portfolios as part of my assessment of the students work in social studies.

During science, students identified the three types of rocks: igneous, sedimentary, and metamorphic. We determined the hardness of rocks by using the Mohs Scale of Hardness. We will continue to discuss this topic and have an open-book quiz in class.

I emailed families about Graduation and the End of the Year Party. Thank you for the photos of the fifth graders. I will get those back to you soon, if I haven’t already. Mrs. Pfeltz is heading our Graduation Reception. She will get in touch with you about the plans for that, if she needs help. Mrs. Glidden is heading our End of the Year Party. Thank you to all of our volunteers who jump right in and make great things happen for our students.
