Nutrition Test: 50% of this test will involve your preparing a menu for one day's meals and snacks for yourself. You must get all of the required RDA's from a variety of food sources. Your portion size should be such that you do not exceed 2500 calories for boys and 2200 calories for girls with a breakdown of 40% Carbohydrates [greatest proportion should be dense carbs] 30% Fats [greatest proportion should be unsaturated fats/no trans fats] 30% Protein [lean meats].
You may pre-plan this menu and bring it with you to the test. For the test you will need all your nutrition papers. It is vital that you have the RDA's chart, the food sources for the RDA"s chart, and a copy of the "new"...redesigned food pyramid. The entire test will be open book and open Bible.

7th Grade: Complete the two activity sheets: The Celluloid Thriller and the puzzler-The Cell in Action.
8th Grade: Periodic Table Quest...you should know all the regions [metals, transition metals, metalloids, nonmetals,lanthanides, actinides] of the table, how to number the periods and number the groups, you should know the family names [alkali, alkali-earth, boron, carbon, nitrogen, oxygen, halogens, noble gases] and placements for each family, you should know the first element in each family and finally be able to identify the 6 blocks occupied by the metalloids.

CURRENT EVENT IS DUE!
7th Grade: Testing on Anaphase. Not happy with a score on either prophase or metaphase...then retake them tomorrow! We will check the rest of C4 's written work.
8th Grade: We will check the rest of the written work for C12 and begin checking the work for C13.
8A Health: You are to track the foods you eat for one week. This "Diet Journal" is to have 8 columns.The first column will be for your daily meals and snacks labels. The other 7 columns will be for your 7 days of data beginning with Friday 2/8 and will end on Thurs 2/14.
The chart will have 7 rows. The first row will be the headers for each day. Rows 2 through 7 will be the daily meals and snack times as follows: Row 2-breakfast, row 3-snack, row 4-lunch, row 5-snack, row 6-supper,row 7-snack. For one of the days you must list the actual amount(portion size)and calories of each food item consumed, for example breakfast would have to read 2 slices of toast 140 cal. and not just toast; milk would be 1 cup 90 cal. or 8 ounces 90 cal. and not just milk. The other six days you only have to list the food item eaten and at which time of the day.

Write the above Bible verse at the top of a page of loose leaf (notebook paper). Pray about this verse and then meditate upon it for several days. (think on the verse) The write your own personal reflection to these two verses. In your reflection you should address what was King David trying to express about God? And, How do these verses apply to you?

Study the entire chapter. Review the vocabulary words and section notes. Be sure to know the following cell processes: Osmosis, Active Transport, Passive Transport, Exocytosis, Endocytosis, Photosynthesis, Cellular Respiration, Fermentation, Mitosis, Cytokinesis, and Binary Fission. Know the steps and drawings for Mitosis. Know the chemical equations for Photosynthesis and Respiration (products and reactants along with energy[in or out][energy form][catalyst][by-products].

8th Grade: Do Assignment #1 Binary compounds. Remember that sulfur is always a -2 when bonded to a metal. Silver is always a +1. Hydrogen can be either a +1 or a -1. Zinc is always a +2.

7th Grade: Complete the 4 genetics problems worksheets that we began in class. This is the monohybrid crosses item listed on your check sheet.
8th Grade: Binary Compounds-elements with multiple valence charges-Lesson #2. Do the first 5 in each column. If you feel comfortable with the processes then work on. If you are having problems then stop with the first five.

7th Grade: Complete the Human Genetics Trait Lab. Be sure to calculate the % of people present in class with the listed trait, then decide based on your data if the trait is dominant or recessive. If % is < 50% then consider the trait to be recessive. Calculate the % by dividing the number of students present in class [into] the number of students with the trait. Multiple this decimal by 100 to get your percentage.
8th Grade: Memorize the complete Ion chart for lesson #3.

7th Grade: As we noted on the board a number of identified dominant traits showed in our survey to be recessive for the number of members present in class. your assignment is to write a hypothesis/paragarph of why our numbers were wrong. this paragraph should be no less than 3-5 sentences. Remember there were 11 students in 7A and 13 students in 7B, also there were 5 girls in 7A and 4 girls in 7B.
8th Grade: Do the first five in each column of the Lesson #4 "More Complex Ions" assignment sheet. Learn the new chart and its rules.

Because of the erratic schedule of classes due to the Stanford testing I am making a bulk assignment for each science class that should be completed by Monday of next week. The classes have all been previously assigned to read and do section reviews, vocabulary, and copy section notes. On Wednesday they will be given a check list for all the written work along with the requisite dittoed resource papers.

All text must be your original writing. We will have one day, Friday May 9th to use publisher in the computer lab to assemble your brochure and print it. It is essential that you have all your research and design planning completed by that day.
