Medieval Biography Assignment
Assignment: You will complete a written and oral biographical presentation on one of the following medieval figures this year. The written presentation will be handed in to Miss Mullinix on the assigned due date, and you will give an oral presentation to the class on a day the following week.
Written Presentation: Your written biography of your chosen person should include the following topics:
• Background of your person (childhood, family, education (if any), what got them started in their area, etc.)
• What are they known for? Describe any accomplishments or major blunders (People can be just as famous for their achievements as they can for their foul ups.). Depending upon the historical figure, there may be more than one thing that they are well known for.
• How did this person, his (or her) accomplishments or his (or her) blunders impact history? How did your person change the world (or their country) for medieval times or modern times? Does this person impact modern day?
Your written biography needs to have a title page and a bibliography. Your bibliography needs to cite at least 3 sources: one encyclopedia, one book, and one Internet site. You may include as many other sources of whatever type you want.
Correct spelling, grammar, capitalization and punctuation is required. Your report should be either typed or handwritten in blue or black ink. (Handwritten means cursive!!!) If typed, your report should be double spaced, font size 12, and a style I can read.
Oral Presentation: Your oral presentation of your chosen person should include the same topics as in your written biography as well as your own personal opinion of your chosen person and their impact on the world. You will need to back up your opinion with reasons and details. You may not read from your written biography during your oral presentation, however, note cards are acceptable. You do need a visual of some type to aid you in your presentation. You come up with your own visual aid!
**PowerPoint presentations will no longer be accepted as presentation notes. It can only contain pictures or graphics to aid presentation.**
Due Date: Miss Mullinix will give you a more specific due date at the beginning of the unit that your person impacted. Your written biography will be due about a week before you give your oral presentation.
Oral presentations will be given no late days, they are presented on their day or not at all (of course excused absences on the presentation date will be an exception). Your oral presentations are meant to fit into my lessons and match the topic(s) of that class period.
