Spelling Words for Week of September 8-12

Spelling Homework Term 1 Assignments
Monday: Select one activity
        A. Write each spelling word 3 times
        B. Write your spelling words in ABC order  
Tuesday: Select one activity
        A. Write each of your spelling words.  Draw a green circle around each vowel.  Now draw an orange line under each consonant.
        B. Write each of your spelling words.  Make a frame around each word. (Your child has an example of this.)    
Wednesday: Select one activity.  
        A. Write 5 telling sentences using at least 5 of your spelling words.
        B. Write 5 asking sentences using at least 5 of your spelling words.              
Thursday:  Study for your test.

Each week your child will be given a list of spelling words and the homework activities. I will also post the spelling words on www.schoolnotes.com . The homework is not due until Friday and should be done on one sheet of paper, when possible.  This is so your child is not trying to keep up with 3 sheets of paper.
    
LANGUAGE ARTS
We will begun our first reading theme, "Silly Stories".  The stories in our theme are, Dragon Gets By, Julius, and Mrs. Brown Went to Town.  We will also be reading level reading books.  These books are designed for the students to read at their instructional level and repeat the vocabulary found in the stories mentioned above.  These books will reinforce the phonics skills we are doing.  


MATH
We are presently working on a review of addition and subtraction facts to 20 and  problem solving.  I will also include with this newsletter a Glossary of Terms for the first marking period.  There is also a letter to parent at the beginning of each chapter which contains the term for that chapter and an activity idea for parent to use at home.  All math home work will be give on Monday and is not due until Friday.


BOOK ORDERS
These will be sent once a month, if you would like to order books for child please send the form and money back to me by the due date stamped on the form.  You may pay with cash or check, please make the check out to the book club.

COMMUNICATION
At the end of each school week a folder will be sent home containing your child's work.   Please initial the folder and send it back to school on Monday.  I will post a class newsletter on my website at the beginning of the month outlining the month.
Agenda  books will be used each day for homework assignments and special teacher notes.  Please review this each night and initial.  Most individual parent/teacher communication will be through your child's Agenda Book.
