*** READING AND LANGUAGE ARTS ***
Our reading series is comprised of 6 units or themes. Our first theme is "Off to Adventure." During this theme, we will climb a mountain with Axel, travel with Mulan in Ancient China, and fall into an unusual lost and found. Some of the reading skills we will be working on are ____. We will also be learning about ____.
Students have weekly reading comprehension homework handed out on Mondays. Please work on this assignment with your child to help improve his/her comprehension. Reading homework is due on Fridays.
Please make sure your child is reading for at least 15 minutes each night. As they read, you can ask them questions to help build their comprehension. The "how" and "why" questions are very important.
PBIS stands for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports. Each class in the school has the same rules, rewards, and consequences to follow so there is schoolwide consistency. Our rules are based on the word RIDE:
Respect Others
Individual Responsibility
Demonstrate Safety
Eager and Ready to Learn
By following the RIDE rules, all students have the opportunity to receive Mustang Merits. Everyone staff member in our school is always on the lookout to give students a merit. These merits can be spent on PBIS incentives each term. Students will not be able to spend their merits at the school store this year. Please encourage your child to RIDE with Pride!
As for consequences of not following the RIDE pledge despite warnings, a student will receive a check on a behavior sheet. After receiving 3 checks in 1 month, a phone call home will be made, and students will be sent directly to the office at the fourth check.

Special Requests...
Please remember to check your child's agenda and review their homework with them each night. It is also important to monitor their supplies throughout the year as they are starting to run low.
