We are working on our fifth theme, Voyagers. Be ready to travel across a wide dark sea, to Korea with a girl and her grandmother, and to Antarctica! Some of the skills we will be working on are making inferences, predicting outcomes, and making generalizations.
Students have weekly reading comprehension homework handed out on Mondays. Please work on this assignment with your child to help improve his/her comprehension. Reading homework is due on Fridays. We also have weekly poems for students to read aloud 10 times. These poems are due back on Mondays with 10 signatures as part of the Lucky Listener Club.
Please make sure your child is reading for at least 15 minutes each night. As they read, you can ask them questions to help build their comprehension. The "how" and "why" questions are very important.

Westside is now a PBIS School!
PBIS stands for Positive Behavior Intervention System. Each class in the school has the same rules, rewards, and consequences to follow so there is schoolwide consistency. Our rules are based on the word RIDE:
Respect Others
Individual Responsibility
Demonstrate Safety
Eager and Ready to Learn
By following the RIDE pledge, all students have the opportunity to receive a Merit reward. Everyone staff member in our school is always on the lookout to give students a merit. These merits can accumulate for special treats and surprises. Please encourage your child to RIDE with Pride!
As for consequences of not following the RIDE pledge, a student will receive a check on a behavior sheet. After receiving 3 checks, a phone call home will be made, and students will be sent to the reflection room or office at the fourth check. come in terms of checks. When a student receives 3 checks, a phone call home is made.
