Welcome back to all parents and students!

I have received updated information this week that we have standing orders for the over-the-counter medications that are listed on the forms you received.  You do not have to have a physician signature on them, just your parent signature and specifications  for which medications you authorize to be given to your child at school.  You still need to complete the Maryland Medication Authorization form and have it signed by your own physician for any prescritpion medication or over-the-counter medication not listed on the form.

Non menthol throat drops can be sent into school.  Donations are always appreciated. You would be surprised how quickly these disappear.  If you want your child to have their own supply of throat drops, send a few in a zip lock bag with their name on it so they will always have some available.

Many parents have inquired about donations to the health room.  Disposable cups of any size, large knee bandaides, nonmenthol throat drops (like Halls Breezers), cotton rounds or squares, and saline wound wash are the items I use most often and run out of throughout the year.

Please reinforce with your children the importance of getting 8-10 hours of sleep a night and eating a good breakfast. Encourage them to wash their hands before and after eating; after sneezing, coughing, or blowing their nose; and after going to the bathroom.  This will greatly reduce the tranmission of bacteria and viruses and help keep your child healthy.  Singing the Happy Birthday Song or humming it while washing their hands is a fun way to teach them the reccommended time to wash their hands.

Just a reminder to parents that if your child has an eye infection or strep throat they must be on medication for 24 hours prior to returning to school. They should also be fever free for 24 hours before returning to school.  If they are vomiting in the morning before school or have a temperature of 100F or greater they should not attend school that day. This is the policy of Cecil County Maryland and the Diocese of Wilmington. The goal is to ensure the health and comfort of your child, and help maintain the health  of all the children at Immaculate Conception School.

I look forward to another year taking care of all  your Children at Immaculate Conception School!
