To the parents, guardians, and family of the new fourth grade, I just want to say thank you for all your support throughout the school year. You all made me feel welcome from day 1 and it was appreciated. I loved your children and enjoyed teaching them. I may have had thirty-two students in number but they made it easy with their enthusiasm to learn new things. And I learned new things, especially about incubators, eggs, and chickens. Thank you Mr. Davis for that. It was fun! The hermit crabs were fun, too. The new third graders have already questioned me if they, too, were going to do the eggs and hermit crabs. That's going to be a challenge!
And thanks to the home room parents, the parties always went smoothly. Thanks for all the cards and gifts and kind words. I will miss your children but they will be close by. Mrs. Boyle is very lucky to have them next year.
Everyone stay safe and happy a blessed and wonderful summer!
Mrs. Kumpel
Your children did a wonderful job cleaning today! Thank you so much for sending in buckets and sponges.
They can wear their phys. ed uniforms again tomorrow or their regular school uniform.
They went home today with their summer reading packet and Math worksheets for 4th grade. Please sign and send back the bottom of the yellow form. Their Math sheets will be counted as their first Math test grade. So please keep those papers in a safe place.
Reminders:
There is no more Aftercare.
Thursday is Noon dismissal and Friday's dismissal will be from church after 9:30 Mass. Expect to pick them up after Mass at approx. 10:30am if you are not attending Mass. All are welcome to attend Mass. Report cards will be given out after Mass.
It's cleaning day tomorrow. Your child needs to wear their phys.ed. uniform. If you have any extra sponges or buckets at home, please send in with your child. The buckets will be coming back home and also any unused sponges. Students are allowed to bring in a water bottle, too.
There is also a large amount of clothing in the school's lost and found. If your child is missing anything or needs anything for next year, please feel free to come in and browse. Everything is out on tables in the downstairs hallway.
Reminders:

Friday, June 5-Dismissal from church following 9:30am Mass.
Terranova scores went home in the Friday Folder. The folder also includes all the graded tests. I gave a practice addition/subtraction quiz on Thursday and was very disappointed in the scores. Your child is to correct all errors and return it signed. Most errors were the result of carelessness and not checking their work.
Wednesday, June 3 is cleaning day. Your child needs to wear their phys.ed. uniform.
Thursday, June 4, is Noon dismissal. No aftercare.
Friday, June 5, Mass is 9:30am. All are welcome. Awards will be given after Mass and dismissal will be from church.

Friday, June 5, is the last day of school with Mass at 9:30am.

I plan on doing fun things next week.

Stamp and mail your letter!
Special-Phys. Ed.
I hope everyone had a nice Memorial Day. I can't believe this school year is almost over! It's been fun!
Our class finally finished our Great Mail Race letters.
Each child wrote a personal letter and sent it, along with our school survey, to another Catholic school in the U.S. I had forgotten to ask each child to bring in a stamp so they are bringing their letter home to stamp and mail it. We're hoping to receive letters back for the next school year while they're in 4th grade.
Your child has his/her Field Day shirt for tomorrow. Please make sure they wear it to school for the event. It will be warm so their phys. ed. shorts would be good to wear and sneakers. They can bring a water bottle and sunscreen. No backpacks as they will not be allowed into school after Field Day is over at 1:30pm. Pick up is at the baseball field. I would ask you to please sign your child out so that I know he/she left safely with an adult. It sounds like a fun day. I'm looking forward to it and I know the children are, too!
Reminders:
Field Day is Thursday, May 21. If your child owes library or cafeteria fees they will not be able to participate until paid. Payment can be made tomorrow to Mrs. Gill before the start of school. Field day begins at 8:30am and pick up is 1:30pm on the baseball field. Lunch and snacks are provided. Your child may bring a water bottle and sun screen. Weather for Thursday is supposed to be warm and humid so they may wear their phys.ed. shorts.

Thank to all who sent in the delicious food for the luncheon today and for the volunteers who manned the classrooms while we enjoyed each others company. It was very thoughtful of each of you.
Change in lunch menu for Monday, May 18. It will be waffles for lunch instead of chicken nuggets.
Tweety spent the day in 3rd grade today. My, how he has grown! K and 1st came to visit him, too. It was another fun day in 3rd grade!
It was a wonderful field trip. The children really enjoyed it. We learned a lot about horseshoe crabs and we even got to pick them up. We got to do some beachcombing and some may be bringing home their beach finds to share with you. We left after lunch under the pavilion because it was a little chilly and some weren't dressed for the weather. We arrived back at school about 2:40pm, a little earlier than 4th and 5th because our program was different and shorter than theirs. Fun Fact: A horseshoe crab is actually related to the spider and scorpion!

Easter break begins with tomorrow's dismissal. Students return Monday, April 20th, in their Spring uniform.
There are now 13 chicks in third grade. They are very cute but surprisingly quiet. Tweety made more noise by herself and could be heard down the hallway than all the chicks together. They are certainly fun to watch.
Reminders:

No School-Easter break begins with Holy Thursday, April 9. Students return on Monday, April 20.
The chicks have arrived!!! These came already hatched.
Mr. Davis came in and took the unhatched eggs and replaced them with chicks that came UPS :) No amount of prayers were going to help the other eggs hatch. It wasn't in God's plans. But we are so thrilled with these. There are 12 new ones that Tweety has to get used to now. And they all look alike. The class suggests we name them with the same name. That solves that problem!
I apologize for the lack of schoolnotes yesterday. I have duty after school and I completely forgot. I am actually off today from school but just had to drive down to see these chicks. They are very quiet. I can't wait for Monday to be greeted by thirteen peeping chicks.
Don't forget the play is tonight and tomorrow night at 7pm in the gym.
I'm sad to report there are no new arrivals. It certainly is not for the lack of prayers! There is still hope.

This will be for a grade! So they need to take this seriously.

Also, since next week is Catholic Schools Week and Thursday is a no homework day I will not be starting a new Reading story but will give a Science and Social Studies test. We have been reviewing for both all week so they should know the material.

It was wonderful to meet the parents of my third graders last night. Now I know why they are so nice! Thanks for the kind welcome and all the good wishes. I wish it were cooler for you.
And if your children come home and tell you that I read "The Night Before Christmas," and The Missing Mitten Mystery," believe them. We were trying to stay cool.
There is no homework this weekend but do remember your child may have books to cover. The larger books need the bigger book socks. I offered the paper book covers again but had no takers.

They will be eating in the cafeteria next week!
A Student Computer Access Contract is coming home today. It needs to be signed and returned before your child can access the internet. Please check your child's daily folder each day for important papers.
Also, I understand not everyone has been able to find the larger book socks. Whenever you are able to find them send them in and I'll make sure the books get covered.
Thank you for sending in food for ICS OutReach. It is very generous of you. Food can still be sent in tomorrow.
REMINDER-Wednesday Special is Phys. Ed.

Our Outreach is in need, especially for peanut butter, jelly, soup, and macaroni and cheese. If you can send in a can or jar with your child when they return to school it would be appreciated.
Thank you in advance and God Bless You.
Have fun this weekend and be safe!
It was a wonderful first two days for third grade. They have already begun to work hard on their lessons. They are a very nice class and seem to get along well together.
Just a reminder that since there is no access to the cafeteria the children need to pack their lunch with everything they need, including forks, spoons, snacks, and drinks, until further notice.
Also, our Special on Wednesday is Physical Education.
Students should come to school in their Phys. Ed. uniforms and sneakers.
Homework has continued to be to cover their books.
The summer has just flown by. I hope you are just as excited as I am to start a new year. Don't forget to bring your supplies and your summer reading activity. You may also bring a snack and a water bottle since the cafeteria is off limits until September 9.
I can't wait to meet all of you. I hope you are enjoying what's left of the summer. And if you noticed the reading list for third grade was actually for the fourth grade, not to worry. I just hope you read something from either list and will be prepared to share with the class. Choose one of following ways in which to share your favorite book:
Make a diorama
Design a bookmark
Draw your favorite scene from the book
Write a book report

In preparation for a great start to 4th grade, our students are strongly encouraged to practice the basic math facts for addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Just a few minutes of review each day will help them master those skills. Flash cards are a great help.
