School dances are popular in middle school. Students and parents are reminded that students MUST clear all financial obligations to the school before they can attend the dance. Sometimes these obligations are library fines or bills for lost books. About one week prior to EACH dance, students with library obligations will receive individual notices. Remember library bills can be cleared in a number of different ways. (1) Students may opt to donate nonperishable foods to the library food bank. (2) Or students my redeem Cougar Cash to eliminate their library fine. (3) Students may also choose to "Make an Academic Deal" with Mrs. Slacum. Academic deals are promises to earn an A on a summative assessment. If an A is earned, fines are waived. (4) Some students prefer to work before or after school to clear responsibilities. Contact Mrs. Slacum one day prior to the date you want to stay afterschool. (5) Finally, students may choose to simply pay-off their fines. If you have any questions, contact Mrs. Slacum.
Come to the CHMS Book Fair on Oct. 26-30. Bookworm Plantation will provide a broad variety of paperback books. Profits from all sales will be used to purchase new videos and DVDs for classroom use.
Have an hour a week or month to spare?
Consider volunteering to work in the school library. Our school library is used heavily for student research and recreational reading. We always need adult volunteers to organize library shelves. If the shelves are in order, the students can find the "right" book more efficiently. If you can help, call Mrs. Slacum at 410.996.5024
Again this year our Digital Databases provided through state fundings. These resources are available at school and at home. Watch for directions for logging on to these sites in an upcoming issue of the CHMS newsletter. Students received a list of usernames and passwords for At Home Use at the beginning of the school year. This information was stapled in the front of their planner. Or feel free to email me and I will send you the usernames and passwords for home use.
