I. CLASSROOM RULES AND PROCEDURES.
APPLY THE GOLDEN RULE: “DO UNTO OTHERS AS YOU WOULD HAVE THEM DO UNTO YOU” WHICH MEANS – TREAT PEOPLE THE WAY THAT YOU WANT TO BE TREATED!

1. BE ON TIME AND SIT IN YOUR ASSIGNED SEAT.
2. BEGIN THE DAILY WARM-UP ON THE CHALKBOARD.
3. BE PREPARED WITH YOUR NOTEBOOK AND PEN OR PENCIL.
4. HAND IN ALL OF YOUR WORK ON TIME.
5. DO YOUR BEST.
6. FOLLOW ALL SCHOOL RULES.
7. FOLLOW ALL CLASSROOM GUIDELINES.
8. RESPECT ONE ANOTHER INCLUDING MYSELF AND IN RETURN
    YOU WILL BE RESPECTED.

II. COURSE GRADE.
Each assignment will be either summative or formative.  60 percent of your overall grade wiII count as summative and the remaining 40 percent of your grade will count as formative.  Summative grades will be unit tests, unit projects, research reports, journal or writing reflections, and overall participation during the marking period.  Formative grades will be quizzes, class activities, homework, and notebook checks.  Students will not be allowed to retake or redo any graded assignment.

III. MAKE UP WORK.           
Make up all missed work at your earliest opportunity, copy missed notes from a classmate. This is the students’ responsibility.  Be prepared to turn in a project or make up an assignment the next day you are in school.  Each school day an assignment is late it goes down 10 percentage points. If an assignment is not turned in within five schools days from the original due date then the assignment will not be accepted.  If you are absent and the absence was excused, you must bring me your pink admit slip with the absence coded.  Excused absences will not count your work as being turned in late.  If your absence was unexcused or you don’t show me your pink admit slip then your missed work will be counted as late and start no higher than a “B” and then graded accordingly.

IV. PERCENTAGE CONVERTED TO A LETTER GRADE.
93% - 100% = A   87% -89.4% = B+       77% - 79.4% = C+     
89.5% - 92% = A-   83% - 86% = B          73% - 76%  = C            
                               79.5% - 82% = B-        69.5% - 72%= C-

67% - 69.4% = D+
64.5% - 66% = D
50% - 64.4% = F

EACH STUDENT WAS GIVEN A COPY OF THIS AND NEEDS TO BE SIGNED BY ONE PARENT OR GUARDIAN AND RETURNED FOR A GRADE.



HEALTH & HUMAN SERVICES (HHS) IS A COURSE WHICH WAS INITIATED DURING THE 2003/2004 SCHOOL YEAR.  HHS IS SEPERATED FROM P.E. AND IS NOW INCLUDED WITH THE FINE ARTS QUARTERLY MARKING PERIOD ROTATION. THIS ALLOWS STUDENTS TO HAVE P.E. ALL FOUR MARKING PERIODS.

6th grade HHS WILL MEET EVERY OTHER DAY FOR ONE MARKING PERIOD. WE WILL ONLY MEET FOR 22 DAYS OUT OF THE ENTIRE SCHOOL YEAR.

7th and 8th grades HHS WILL MEET EVERY OTHER DAY FOR 18 DAYS DUE TO THE WORLD CULTURES COURSE WHICH ADDED A 5TH ROTATION TO FINE ARTS.

AT THIS TIME I CAN NOT OFFER SPECIFIC ASSIGNMENTS FOR ANY GRADE DUE TO THE FACT THAT I AM TRYING TO IMPROVE ON THE LESSON CONTENT EACH MARKING PERIOD.  THIS MEANS THAT EACH MARKING PERIOD ASSIGNMENTS MAY VARY SLIGHTLY.  RARELY WILL STUDENTS HAVE ANY HOME WORK. ALL ASSIGNMENTS SHOULD BE COMPLETED IN CLASS.

I CAN OFFER UNITS OF STUDY FOR EACH GRADE. THESE ARE LISTED BELOW.
EACH GRADE WILL HAVE ONE UNIT OF MAJOR FOCUS.

6TH GRADE: UNITS OF STUDY

1. PERSONAL HEALTH / SELF-ESTEEM BUILDING.
2. NUTRITION - DIETARY GUIDELINES, FOOD SAFETY AND COOKING
3. D.A.R.E. DRUG ABUSE RESISTANCE EDUCATION.
    (MAJOR FOCUS)
4. DISEASE - AWARENESS OF COMMUNICABLE AND
    NON-COMMUNICABLE DISEASES
5. FAMILY LIFE - ACCEPTANCE OF PHYSICAL, SOCIAL, AND
    MENTAL CHANGES. SEXUAL HARASSMENT - AWARENESS AND
    PREVENTION

7TH GRADE: UNITS OF STUDY

1. DRUGS - CLASSIFICATIONS, CATEGORIES, MEDIA INFLUENCE,
    CONSEQUENCES
2. NUTRITION - NUTRIENTS AND FUNCTION, EATING DISORDERS,
    PLANNING AND COOKING HEALTHY MEALS  (MAJOR FOCUS)
3. FAMILY LIFE- DEVELOPING HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS,
    ABSTINENCE, & STD's.
4. SAFETY- BASIC FIRST AID, AND CYBER-SAFETY

8TH GRADE: UNITS OF STUDY

1. DRUG UNIT- INCREASE DRUG KNOWLEDGE AND WHY TO STAY DRUG
    FREE.
2. DISEASE- UNDERSTANDING THE BODY'S IMMUNE SYSTEM &
    HIV/AIDS PREVENTION
3. FAMILY LIFE/CHILD CARE AND DEVELOPMENT.
    (MAJOR FOCUS)
        FUNCTION/DYSFUNCTION WITHIN A FAMILY
        FETAL DEVELOPMENT AND PRENATAL CARE
        REASONS TO CHOOSE ABSTINENCE - TEEN PREGNANCY,
        STD, AND REPUTATION
        *ONE DAY LESSON ON ABSTINENCE & DIFFERENT
         METHODS OF BIRTH CONTROL.
        *PARENT PERMISSION SLIP REQUIRED FOR THIS LESSON.
      CHILD CARE AND COSTS
4. DEALING WITH DEPRESSION AND SUICIDE PREVENTION
