Influence Paragraph
In class, we discussed the following definition of INFLUENCE:
Influence—a power that indirectly affects a person or event, the power to sway based on prestige; wealth; or status. To cause a change in the character, thought or action of another.
Based on the definition above, think about someone who has had an influence on your life. A few possible “candidates” are:
• Parents or step parents
• Grandparents
• Brothers or Sisters
• Aunts or Uncles
• Camp Counselor
• Teacher
• Minister
• Friend
• Cousins and other relatives
For this assignment, you will be asked to write ONE paragraph (a minimum of five sentences) to explain how this person has influenced you. You will need to answer the following questions:
• How do you know this person? (If not a parent or other relative, how long have you known this person?)
• How has this person influenced you? (give specific examples)
• How has your life changed as a result of this person’s influence on your life?
Your paragraph should answer the questions above, and it should also include any information that you feel is important to understanding how this person has had an impact on your life.
Your paragraph will be graded as follows:
• Does the paragraph answer all of the questions above?
• Is the paragraph well-written? (Does it make sense, free of spelling mistakes, etc.)
• Does this paragraph completely explain how this person has influenced your life?
This assignment will be due on ___________________.
