Here we are in the home stretch!  One full day left to go and 2 half days.  I know everyone is looking forward to summer!

Please bring in all textbooks, library books and Alpha Smarts from home.

Also, if you could please bring in a brown paper bag to use to wrap up the textbooks for the summer it would be greatly appreciated.  If you have a few extra laying around at house, feel free to send them in too.

Apparently there was a coloring packet handed out by the Spanish substitute yesterday.  There must have been a miscommunication because that would have been alot of work to do in one night.  I would not worry about completing it because yesterday was the last Spanish class. If you completed it already, hand it in and I'll ask Sr. Cummins if she can count it as Extra Credit. Sorry for any confusion.

Remember, PE tomorrow, PERK auction and Hero presentations in computer class.  FUN!

Have a great afternoon,
Mrs. Dean

Much to the relief of the students and PARENTS, the NO TALKING contest ended this morning at 8:30.  And yes, I had my earplugs in place at exactly 8:30.

In talking to the students today, we discussed how the contest went and how they felt about it.  Clearly, everyone was glad it was over, but more importantly the
students recognized what a great accomplishment they had achieved.  Through this experience they learned about perserverance and the benefit of hard work, they learned about teamwork and loyalty, they demonstrated integrity and honesty in reporting their points to the team captain and they learned about self control.  All of these qualities are essential in developing a strong, Christian character.

Parents, I apologize for any frustration or disruptiveness at home as a result of the contest.  I know it was challenging and some of you are ready to strangle me, but please remember it was a very beneficial experience for your children. They learned alot about themselves and each other.

As a reward for toughing it out, Mrs Park and I are offering a dress down day and a class movie next Thursday 2/12/09).  Team captains will get free ice cream for all of their additional hard work.

Thanks again for your support.  You should be VERY proud of your children. God Bless.

The NO TALKING contest ends tomorrow morning at 8:30.  Hang in there for the final stretch. Parents, I know this is challenging and somewhat disruptive to your home life but please continue to support your kids in this endeavor.  We have witnessed great examples of honesty, teamwork, integrity and self sacrifice in your children over the last 24 hours and although this has been difficult, it has been rewarding.  Say a prayer for Mrs. Park and myself when the flood gates open at 8:30 tomorrow.  I'm bringing earplugs!!  Please keep in mind that this contest was the students idea, not the teachers. :)

Homework for tonight:

Math: Correct Ch 8 math test (due Monday). Chap 9 is a big chapter.  It has 9 lessons and covers a variety of material.  We will not complete the entire chap by next week but I hesitate to wait until after the Christmas break to administer the chapter test.  With that in mind, I would like to break the chap in half and administer a test on the first half of the chap (lessons 1,2,3,5 and 6) on Wed. 12/17 and then focus on the second half of the chap when we return from the Christmas holiday.

Reading: We wrapped up Literature Circles meetings today and now have the presentations to look forward to.  The children are excited about producing their plays, movies and power point shows for their "grand finale".  Being that computer lab time is limited, we will spend next week working on presentations and rehearsals during school.  Some groups may be prepared to present by the end of the week, but probably not all.  If we feel that we need more time, then we will simply have the presentations upon our return from Christmas break when everyone is ready. Our theme for the presentations is "fun, not stress".  :)
