Fifth grade will be going on a field trip to Luray Caverns on Tuesday, October 16th.  I still need 2 chaperones to come along on the trip.  If you would like to be a chaperone, please send in a note or send me an email confirming your availability. Chaperones will be chosen on a first come, first serve basis, so please let me know as soon as possible if you would like to accompany us. The bus will leave at approximately 8:30 and will return at 2:30.

Thank you to those families who have sent in classroom supplies and the activity fee of $30.  If you not had a chance to send in the activity fee, please do so as soon as possible.

If you would like to order the Kids Discover magazine, please send in the form (received at Back-To School night)with your child.  If you do not want to order, please fill out form anyway and send in.  The classroom receives free magazines.

It is hard to believe that we are already halfway through the first quarter. Interims will be sent home on Tuesday, October 9th. Students with an average of 79% or below will receive an interim report.

Homework is as follows:

Social Studies: We have spent the last week working on the Geography Terms booklet in class.  Students were required to choose 20 terms from a Geography terms list.  They needed to write the definition of the term, write a sentence using the term and then draw or cut out a picture of the term.  The writing component should be in cursive because this will count as a handwriting grade.  Most of the children finished up in class today, but some still have a little ways to go. I will be collecting the booklets on Tuesday, Oct. 9th.

Religion:  Chap 3 & 4 test moved to Thursday, October 11th.

It is supposed to be a glorious weekend, so enjoy!!

See you on Tuesday.

Sorry for not posting homework last night.  I was too tired to even type when we got back from Hemlock last night! Mrs. Lindstrom said that the children were very fabulous on Thursday while I was away at Hemlock.  Ten marbles were put in the jar this morning as a reward.  Unfortunately the class lost one of those marbles during Spanish class, but overall, behavior was greatly improved.  Keep up the good work and keep praying!

Here is the homework for the weekend.

Just to let you know, I be attending the 7th grade field trip to Hemlock tomorrow, so I will be unavailable during the day.  We should be returning to the school at approximately 5:30, so the homework will be posted a little bit late.  Mrs. Lindstrom will be substituting for me and has an action packed day planned for the students.

I was very disappointed with the students behavior today during religion class.  Fr. Tewes took time out of his day to come in to talk to the students and their behavior was appauling and rude.  Each student will be writing an apology letter to Fr. Tewes tonight and I will be asking him not to visit our classroom again until I feel the students are able to behave appropriately.  All of the marbles have been removed from the marble jar and we will be starting over.

I would like to apologize to the students who were behaving appropriately and trying to set a good example.  Unfortunately, they will have to suffer the consequences of their classmates inappropriate behavior.  I am hopeful that the good behavior that some students are setting will begin to influence the behavior of others.

Please pray for our class. Pray that our children can truly model the behavior and responsibility that is expected of them.  They are the leaders of the elementary school and need to be setting the example for the younger children.

If you don’t have colored pencils or markers, please bring them.
If you have any special stickers or other decorative things, you may also bring those.  Do not bring anything expensive or that you don’t want glued, taped, colored, etc.  The poster will eventually go home, but first it will be displayed in the school, so please be comfortable with what you want to show. I am looking forward to spending the day with you.
