Literature
Poetry project:  Ideally, you should be finalizing one poem a day, adding one final item to your glossary and keeping up with the table of contents. Are you keeping up?

Poems written (draft form) so far
1.  Limerick-- pair written and individual,
2.  Haiku-- pair written and individual,
3.  Cinquain-- (2 different versions) pair written and individual,
4. “The Leaving”-- pair written only
5.  Clerihew-- pair written only
6.  Months of Year couplets-- pair written only
7. “Son to Mother”-- pair written using dialect and sustained image/metaphor

9.  onomatopoeia lines
10.  tanka

Poems already written in final form and ready for your packet:  Lighthouse poem; Dr. Seuss poem/story; color poem, contrast poem (the diamond-shaped poems)

Your TABLE OF CONTENTS should list each poem by title and form/style and give the author(s).  If your poem was pair-written, list both names on the table of contents and on the poem itself.

A glossary is an alphabetized list of defined terms.  You may not download or cut and paste any of this.  All definitions or poetry "formulas" must be those given in class and written entirely in your own words.
GLOSSARY terms so far:
•    personification
•    alliteration
•    rhyme scheme
•    couple,
•    triplet
•    simile
•    metaphor
•    dialect
•    stanza/verse
•    monologue

•    narrative poetry
•    onomatopoeia
        limerick

Titles are not style names; style name goes at the bottom of page.
•Spaced on the page:
Left justified (straight left margin), centered, or with other correct use of margins/indenting
You may put more than one poem on a page if they are the same kind or style.  However, do not crowd poems together.
•Labeled
Name(s), date, and style of poem written on the bottom, right of the poem
•Neatly presented with no spelling errors or untidy corrections
•Illustrated or decorated—optional

OR:
•Computer written in black ink
Colored inks are acceptable if they are readable.
Font size and style may vary for creativity, but all work must be well presented.
•Titled

•Spaced correctly
Left justified (straight left margin), centered, or with other correct use of margins/indenting.  Some poems can have each line centered, which gives it an uneven left margin; however, this is not appropriate for all poems, so look at your samples.
You may put more than one poem on a page if they are the same kind or style.  However, do not crowd poems together.
•Labeled with name(s), date, and style of poem written on the bottom, right of the poem

Project information:
Your choices for the book project must be finalized by the end of the week.  You had all period today to work on this and on your Ch. 4-6 work. By Friday, I want to know exactly what each person in the group will do.  Submit a list with a detailed description for me to approve. Remember that the purpose of the project is for your group to teach the class a little about the industry that you have chosen.  Projects will be presented on Thursday and Friday, February 7th and 8th.  This is not a big project and does not involve essays or a lot of writing, but I do expect quality work. In case you have forgotten, here is the list of some of the possible project ideas from which to choose:
   1. An apprentice contract:  Use the informational handout to design an agreement between the master and apprentice. This should be written as a legal document.
   2. A sign for the shop.  Research signs and make one for the shop.  This is the early form of advertising, and it helped people who could not read recognize the shop.
   3. Some sort of handbook or training guide.  This could be done by several people in the group, each one contributing part of it.  It might include, the vocabulary, tools, and/or materials of the trade; a step by step how-to guide; a history of the trade; famous colonial tradesman (ie: Paul Revere as a silversmith)
   4. A skit, model, diorama, poster, etc.  You would have to tell me what these covered.
Remember, you are not doing all of these. If you have other suggestions, let me know. You design the project with your group.
