Dear Parents,
I am re-sending home lists 1-A, 1-B, 2-A, & 2-B and you may continue reviewing them a few at a time. If it is stressful, please discontinue that part. Please practice these words daily until your child has instant recall. Mastery is acquired when there is automatic recognition of the word.
We are still reading and learning the vocabulary words from the story “Mice Make Trouble”. This week we will be continuing Unit 2 of “Fundations” homework. They will be
the same words we are using with the word sort spelling words for the week. For fluency practice, we will be reading “Ben Bug” and “Thank-You Day”.
We will be spending time on blending words, and reviewing beginning and ending sounds as well as blending words with short a, i, o, u and this week e. You may still work with rhyming words in the story. I am enclosing the paper with the word sorts, the word hunt, and the writing sort for spelling, the stories “Ben Bug” and “Thank-You Day” and the vocabulary for “Mice Make Trouble” to continue to practice. On Friday, all you should send back in the folder is the word sort spelling homework and the Fundations homework (the sheets I am sending home). You may keep the books “Ben Bug” and“Thank-You Day” for your child’s reading collection.

Welcome to Resource! I have been given permission
from Father Posey to accompany my husband on his DIA trip to China for country familiarization. We will go
overland from Lasha, Tibet to Katmando, Nepal and end
up at the base camp of Mount Everest. We leave
15,Sept.and return 30,Sept. I plan on starting the Basic Skills class Tuesday October 9,
Fear not, you children will be well cared for and in very capable hands. Miss Walker will be here always willing to give gentle guidance and reteaching as needed. Mrs. Longo, my former partner in crime in resouce, will be subbing for me. Many of the children remember her from her teaching days in resource and third grade. She was in this week to meet my students and shadow me. Homework will come home on Mondays and be returned on Fridays.

Dear Parents,
I have included a packet for our Fundations homework (from Barbara Wilson’s Wilson Reading Program). We find it is helpful if you the parents know how we are teaching their children. This way you can reinforce it at home. I will send home future units as we get to them.
I am also sending home a list of the first 10 Dolch Sight Words (high-frequency words that must memorized because they cannot be memorized). Please make flash cards and practice these words daily until your child has instant recall. They need to have automatic recognition of the word for mastery. When your child knows the words in class automatically, I will send home the next set. I suggest that you start with the first five words and when mastered go to the next set.
We have been listening to “Ruby the CopyCat” in class and I am sending home the vocabulary words we have been learning in the story. For fluency practice, we will be reading “Mac and Tab” and “The Big House” this week.
We will be spending time on blending letters, and reviewing beginning and ending sounds as well as blending words with short a. Please have your child write four complete sentences using some of these words. Please make flash cards for the following short a words: bat, cat, fat, hat, mat, pat, rat, sat, and ham. They also have homework for their word study. I put magnetic tape on the back so you may stick it on the fridge. For the next couple of weeks they will be doing a buddy sort by matching pictures to words.I am enclosing the paper about the word sorts for spelling, the dolch list words, the story “Mac and Tab” the vocabulary for “Ruby the Copycat”, and the fundations homework. Please do not be overwhelmed. You may keep the papers at home to study. On Friday you should only send back in the folder: the word sort spelling homework, the short a flash cards, and the book “Mac and Tab” (You may keep “The Big House" to start your reading collection).
Please contact me if you have any questions or would like a meeting.
