It is about that time of the year to be preparing for the SOL!

Here is the upcoming schedule (students should have already showed you a copy of this, little has been changed)

CFA on Government in Economy for 7A is Weds May 28
                                7B & 7C Tues May 27
Extra Credit has been handed out and due Mon. June 9
SOL for CIVICS is June 5!

Students should be working on the study log for civics every night for a half hour!

Homework Due 5-2-08: Students will have their Part 2 to the Judicial Systems test tomorrow. Tree map on the 9 Economic Terms is due tomorrow as well. A calandar laying out the rest of the year for the students and parents will go home tomorrow. Please if you have any questions please email me.

4-16-08
Homework Due 4-17-08: Students will have their CFA tomorrow on Policy Making Process. Students must also have their title pages done and bring their notecards back tomorrow.

Homework Due 4-3-08: Students were asked to complete a double bubble, comparing and contrasting the Virginia General Assembly and the U.S. Congress. Please have 4 similarities and differences. Please add some illustrations as well!

Homework Due-3-28-08: Students were asked to finish a yellow worksheet on the electoral college for homework.

Here is the plan for the next few days (few changes):
Friday- Part 1 of class:Review w/Teacher for Political Process CFA
        Part 2 of class: Students will be broken up into groups of 4 to create a review game with the study guide that is provided.

Monday-Part 1 of class: Play other students games that they came up with.
       Part 2 of class: Extensive review with teacher.

Homework Due 3-4-08: STudents were asked to complete a 1/2 multiflow map on what the effects would be if one of the branches (of their choice) was to gain more power then the other two branches.

Homework Due 2-29-08: Students in Class A & C where asked to complete the worksheet on Federalism. Class B was asked to finish the questions about the political cartoon.

Homework Due 2-27-08: Students have a worksheet on the 5 documents that influenced the Constitution for homework. Please DO NOT paste in notebook this will be collected. Tomorrow the students will have a QUIZ on the following information (all found in notebook):
        1. 5 Fundamental Principals of Government
        2. 5 Documents that influenced Constitution
        3. Preamble
        4. 4 Purposes of government (found in Preamble)

Homework Due 2-15-08: Students were asked to complete the worksheet on "Which of the 5 principals of government are most important to you?" Choose a principal and give 3 reasons why/how it affects your life. Please paste on page 31.

Homework Due 2-13-08: Students are to complete their Constitution Vocabulary if it was not finished today in class. Please paste on pgs. 25 & 26 of your notebook and be ready to be checked tomorrow.

Students do not have any homework to complete over the weekend but the students were informed that we will be reviewing for our first CFA test on Monday which will make our test on TUESDAY Feb. 12. Students will also have their title page due on the day of the test. This is a page in their notebook that has the title and objectives for the unit and will be completed by decorating the page with illustrations about what we learned during the unit. The students will see an example on Monday to get a better idea of what I am looking for:) Have a great weekend

Homework Due 2-7-08: Tomorrow is the BIG day! I am going to be checking the following work that we have been doing all week. Students if you have it done already then that is GREAT! If not, then you need to make sure the following is complete for a grade tomorrow:

1. Parallel flow map of the naturalization process with the following topics as a "point of view"
        1. Anti-Immigration Politician
        2. Immigrant coming to the U.S.
2. Examples of Duties and Responsibilities of Citizens on your tree map.
3. Make sure that all papers are in notebook and up-to-date with all information! I want to make sure you are starting off on the right foot with our notebooks!

Homework Due 2-6-08: Students were to finish their parallel flow maps on the Naturalization Process. One map should be in the "point of view" of a immigrant coming into the U.S. and the second "point of view" of a anit-immigration politician. What do you feel at each step? Should it be changed? Is it needed? Keep these questions in mind when completing your maps.

If we finished the tree maps on the responsibilities and duties of citizens, please complete the example part on the map. If you were unable to copy them down I have listed them below:

Duties:
      *Obey Laws
      *Pay Taxes
      *Serve on a jury or as a witness in court
      *Serve in armed forces if called upon
  
Responsibilities:
      *Register to Vote
      *Hold Elective Office
      *Serve in voluntary appointed positions
      *Participate in political campaigns
      *Influence government by communicating with government officials.
      *Keep informed regarding current events
      *Respect others rights to an equal voice in government.
