Week of October 15:
This week students will be covering SOL 7.8d which covers elaboration of the central idea and SOL 7.5a which covers mood and tone. This week we will review adjectives and adverbs as well. Friday we will have a quiz on the material.
We will also be reading three short stories entitled, "Life without Gravity", "All Summer in a Day", and "The Night the Bed Fell". We will focus on identifying the elements of a story such as plot, theme, setting, etc. as well as establishing the central idea, details supporting the central idea, and the mood or tone of the story.
Students will also be writing a descriptive journal entry in which they will develop a story with a certain type of mood. Students will read each other's stories and identify the mood.
