G.O.A.L.S. for the week of November 16 – 20, 2009

Whoever loves much, does much.
Thomas a Kempis

Religion - Chapters 8 – 10 Test will be on Thursday. Support our school’s Thanksgiving Food Drive by sending in one can of vegetables or soup and $1.00 toward the purchase of a turkey for some needy family. Please send in all donations before next Tuesday. Thank you for your generosity.

Math – Chapter 2 Test will be on Thursday. As always, there will be a thorough review and practice sessions prior to testing.

Reading and Language Arts – We will be applying comprehension and vocabulary skills this week across the curriculum. Learning how to identify and write compound sentences will be the focus of our grammar lessons this week. Students may still earn a coupon for a free pan pizza from Pizza Hut this month by reading a mystery story. In addition, keeping the “Reach for the Stars” log sheet up-to-date will have its rewards too!
Please remember to turn in the log sheet by November 30th.

Spelling – Unit 9 Test on Friday.

Science - Did you know that Ben Franklin, one of our country’s Founding Fathers, was one of the first scientists to study the Gulf Stream and map its course?
Our goal this week is to complete Chapter 3; Lesson 3: How Does the Ocean Water Move? Yes, we will discover how ocean currents affect the earth and what causes tides. On Friday there will be a quiz on this lesson.

Social Studies – This week and next, we will explore the first people of Virginia – the Powhatans – and learn to appreciate their culture and resourcefulness (pp 80 -93). It depends on how far we get, but after each lesson, there will be some type of assessment in the form of a worksheet, group activity, or an open book quiz completed in the classroom.

We are going to have a very busy and full week---all should remember to get plenty of rest and bring healthy snacks to school!

God bless-
