Term 4 Project
During the last 9 weeks of school you will be working on your formal writing assignment. The assignment will be broken down into different parts:
1. The reading element;
a. Each class was assigned a novel. The schedule for turning in questions from the study guides follows. Due dates are non-negotiable:
i. LOF:
1. Chapters 1-4 due 4/4
2. Chapters 5-8 due 4/18
3. Chapter 8-12 due 5/2
ii. Animal Farm
1. Chapters 1-3 due 4/4
2. Chapters 4-7 due 4/18
3. Chapters 7-10 due 5/2
iii. TKM
1. Chapters 1-10 due 4/4
2. Chapters 11-20 due 4/18
3. Chapters 21-31 due 5/2
b. Make sure you stick to the due dates, but you are able to turn the work in early if you wish. You will be graded on the completion of your responses to the questions.
2. The writing element;
a. Each student will be required to write a paper that summarizes the novel, presents a specific character for analysis and incorporates a historical perspective. If you take each section separately – the paper will be easier to write.
b. You will be required to work on this at home and at school, so please be prepared. Saying you left your paper at home is not a viable excuse. You should have your novel, study guides and research information with you everyday!
c. Please make sure you have index cards. You will need them for references, note taking and other source information. There will be due dates and they are as follows:
i. Reference cards that cover the historical element you wish to include in your paper; 7 cards are due 4/17 & 4/18
ii. Another 7 reference cards will be due on 4/27 and again on 5/4.
iii. Summary cards: minimum of 8 that review important information from the novel, due: 4/17 & 4/18
iv. Bibliography cards, citing at least 5 sources
Due: 5/8 & 5/9
v. Character note cards; minimum of 10 that include character development and important quotes
Due: 5/1 & 5/2
d. We will be reviewing in class the format of each type of card. Make sure you take the proper notes to ensure you get full credit for your work.
e. Final papers will be due on 5/15 & 5/16. Progress reports go out on the 18th so papers must be in before that. Papers should stick to the MLA format; 12 point font, indent quotes and new paragraphs. Here is a good resource should you have questions:
http://www.liu.edu/cwis/cwp/library/workshop/citmla.htm
3. Historical Element
a. Though we will be covering some information class, you are responsible for focusing on one major event, relating it to your novel and incorporating it into your paper.
b. Some sites that may be helpful:
i. www.ask.com (be specific about your question)
ii. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page (Please double check information)
iii. www.historychannel.com
c. Remember; your main focus is on revolution, types of government, propaganda and/or social injustice. After providing an overview of your focus, provide a specific example or instance that you research and explain thoroughly. If you use more than three consecutive words from a source, you must footnote it; otherwise it is plagiarism and you will fail the paper.
4. You must have 2 (two) copies of your paper!!! One for me to grade and the other for the 10-15 minute ORAL PRESENTATION you will make to the class beginning May 19th. We will draw numbers later to determine the order.
More information will follow. It is very important that if you are absent, you stay after school to get any information you may have missed. If you need help or are confused about something ASK QUESTIONS!!!

Julius Caesar
Mrs. Young – English 10
Act II Project
As we continue reading Julius Caesar, many characters come into the play and it can be difficult to keep them all straight. As a little project to help you, you are going to make “Character Cards”. Displayed in class, each card should be 5 x 8 (half a piece o paper). One side can have a picture of the character, their name and one or two words that represents them. On the other side there should be three quotes – referenced of course – that demonstrates who the character is.
You are required to complete 3 cards – all for different characters. You will receive a grading rubric for this project. The 3 cards will be worth a test grade and if you choose to complete more cards, they will count as quiz grades – maximum of 5 cards total.
Due date: Odd Days: March 7
Even Days: March 6
No late cards for any reason!!! Absence is NOT an excuse.
Act III Project
