Mary Peake PTA Connection

Welcome to your Mary Peake PTA website. The PTA is committed to supporting the education and well being of every student. We aim to assist the administration, the teachers, the staff, the parents and especially the children in their daily pursuit of knowledge. Through our Cultural Arts program our children are introduced to art, music, theatre, and motivational speakers. Our evening PTA programs are held in an effort to foster a sense of community within our school, and to incorporate education and information in a fun and comfortable atmosphere.

The Mary Peake PTA relies on volunteers each year to assist in getting everything done in a school year. Every event held throughout the year needs additional volunteers. Whether you have a little or a lot of time to volunteer, we can use you!
NEEDED: PTA Library Volunteers!
Why do we need PTA Volunteers this year?
Due to district cuts, Mary Peake's librarian, Mrs. Roberts, will be at Mary Peake only every OTHER week this year. That means students' access to the library will be severly limited. With PTA volunteers trained to help in the library students will be able to return and check out books, do research, and use their library in Mrs. Robert's absence. For students in a gifted center such as Mary Peake, the library is a VERY important place. And reliable PTA volunteers who can commit a few hours each month to keeping it open will be invaluable! Please consider volunteering if you have time. Call Tammy Johnson, PTA Volunteer Coordinator, 850-3568, or email djsmom2@verizon.net.

The Parrotdise Learning Garden at Mary Peake Center
The "Parrotdise Learning Garden"...is a long-cherished dream for Mary Peake Center teachers-- Mary Peake Center's own Certified Outdoor Wildlife Habitat where students can learn about native plants and wildlife, as well as to observe life-cycles first-hand and to get hands-on gardening experience.
With the help of local volunteer Master Gardeners and generous donors, the Parrotdise Learning Garden becomes a reality this year. On September 11th, United Way volunteers, students, and teachers worked hard to complete preparations for planting in the garden. On October 10th, Mary Peake students, parents, and teachers planted over 50 new flowers and shrubs in the garden and enjoyed a wonderful family cookout, complete with special gardening visitors who taught us all about bees, composting, butterflies and more!
Please take a moment to look at the fenced-in area in front of the school to see changes being made!
If you have questions about the Parrotdise Learn Garden project, or would still like to donate a plant, please contact Ms. McAllister, Mrs. Ferrel, or Mrs. Litz at 727-1247.Your generous gift will become a beautiful part ofMary Peake Center!

Founded in 1966, RIF is the oldest and largest children's and family nonprofit literacy organization in the United States. RIF's highest priority is reaching underserved children from birth to age 8. Through community volunteers in every state and U.S. territory, RIF provides 4.5 million children with 16 million new, free books and literacy resources each year.
All RIF programs combine three essential elements to foster children's literacy: reading motivation, family and community involvement, and the excitement of choosing free books to keep.
RIF's accomplishments are due in part to the generous support of the U.S. Department of Education, corporations, foundations, community organizations, and thousands of individuals.
Your Mary Peake PTA is proud to sponsor three free RIF books for each student every year.
The second R.I.F. distribution is scheduled for Friday, March 5, 2010.
RIF Chairperson is Daphne Rehurer, 722-8222
