Language Arts: Each of our three reading groups continues to read leveled chapter books, novels, and other great stories from our Reading Book. We are reviewing all of our fourth grade Reading SOLs for the upcoming SOL tests. We also have three different spelling groups in our classroom, with three different spelling lists directed at the each student's current spelling ability.
Math: We are continuing our study of Metric and US Customary Systems of Measurement. We are also reviewing all 4th grade math skills. As you may know, the Everyday Mathematics program spirals or repeats certain topics, such as decimals, while adding more difficult skills and concepts to the topic each time.
Social Studies: We are now focusing on the development of the United States. Special attention is being paid to the importance of Yorktown and roles of George Washington. We are also looking at Virginia as having dominated the nation's government, with it's contribution of four of the first five presidents!
Science: In science, we are looking at the influence of human activity on ecosystems. Our class is bitter about litter! We continue to study habitats and niches, in relation to food webs. Our students are also taking another look at life cycles and seem to be quite interested in their studies.
Margaret Beeks has a zero tolerance policy for bullying. A person is bullied when: he or she has been exposed to repeated negative actions (physical or verbal) by one or more people, and he or she has difficulty defending him or herself. If students see bullying they are to report it to an adult at once. Please remind your child to take this policy seriously; it is a school policy that all students must follow! Please check out the bullying website I have included at the top of the page.
Thanks for all of your support!
