Monday Letter
Mrs. Holbrook’s Second Grade Class
Margaret Beeks Elementary School
Dear Families,
It’s hard to believe that November is already here! This year is passing far too quickly for me!
On Monday, each student will register to vote, and if his/her application is accepted, then she/he will be eligible to vote in the Room 21 election. Hopefully, if your child didn’t already know her/his name, address, and zip code, she/he will now. I think that the classroom election is a good illustration of why everyone needs to know his/her name and address with correct spelling.
Now for our learning this week:
Language Arts: We continue to work on the difference between fact and opinion. We will develop our next list of spelling words and will bring them home by Thursday. The next spelling test will be on November 13, 2008. We continue to read in the “Nature Walk” theme in our reading books. We will finish reading “Exploring Parks with Ranger Dockett this week.
Math: We are counting change, skip counting with frames and arrows, telling time, constructing graphs, and learning more about place value.
Science: We continue to learn about the interdependence of living things with their surroundings and will continue to discuss weather and seasonal changes and how they affect people, plants, and animals.
Social Studies: We continue our study of maps and will learn about the parts of a map. We will also practice reading various maps, study the maps of both Virginia and the United States, and create simple maps.
Have a wonderful week.
Beth
