Welcome to the Beeks' Library Media Center !!

Thank you for your wonderful support of the bookfair.

--
In January all the students learned about the Newbery and Caldecott Medals.  We read form the new Caldecott winner "The Invention of Hugo Cabret".
----

Feb 12 the library media center was used for voting in the Virginia Primary. Voting is an important citizen responsibility.  Some children were able to watch someone vote.

Grades 3-5 (to get ready for the election) have been looking up information about US residents, citizens, responsibilities of a citizen, who may become president, and how a person becomes President of the USA.  We used reference sources including http://bensguide.gpo.gov
Your children might like to go to the site and do some of the activities provided for all grade levels.

The next 6 - 8 weeks will be spent using reference sources to discover how to use them and what types of information are found in each.
We will use encyclopedias, dictionaries, almanacs, atlases, etc. on-line and off-line.

5th grade will also learn about Eleanor Morgan, a Virginian, who refused to move from her bus seat long before Rosa Parks.

My are processing many new books for the library.

Guidelines for the Library Media Center:

We know that in the Library we will:
Walk,
Use quiet 6” voices,
Keep hands and feet to oneself,
Treat people as you would like to be treated,
Be respectful when others are speaking,
Wait quietly and patiently, and
Follow directions for checking out and returning library materials.

Children are expected to return or renew their library books each week. Books become overdue after a couple of weeks.  Students with overdue books do not check-out materials to take home.

Classes visit the Beeks' Library Media Center once a week.  A student may come at any time during the day after checking with his/her teacher.

Classes that come each day are:
Monday - Martin, Snair and Alden
Tuesday - Peterson, Williams, McGuigan and Burke
Wednesday - Kruckow, Danzi, Roethlisberger, Poff/Hudson
Thursday - Linkenhoker, Ross, Law, PreK, Wiggert, and Holbrook
Friday - Fogarty, Wade, Scherer, Salyers, and Devens

If your child does not like to check-out library books, he/she needs to bring the book they are reading to the library and read or explore the library while others are getting books.

What is the best book you have read lately?

You are welcome to visit our library with your child before and after school.
