SchoolNotes.com - Linking Educators to the Community
Dear Parents, Students, Staff, and Friends,

Students have worked hard and learned a lot of English during our first nine weeks at school.  As we enter the second nine weeks, I am pleased to continue working with students on test taking skills, reading skills, writing skills, listening skills, American Holiday awareness, general language acquisition and more!

Thank you for all the hard work you do at home.  It really helps.

Here, just for your information:  Many times students go through what is called a "silent period" at the beginning of the language acquisition process.  This is a natural, predictable part of their language development.  For some it takes only days, and for others it takes months.  Teachers are generally advised to be award of this natural stage and not to force beginners to speak if they are not yet ready.  Communicating non-verbally is the best strategy for a student in the silent period.  At this stage, students are doing a tremendous amount of listening and observing.

As always, I am more than happy to address any concerns, questions or comments!   Please stop by the room, call me at school, or email me anytime.

Take care,
Mrs. Lisa Maloney
