This will be my last Monday letter of the year and forever! The next 9 days are going to move fast and furiously. The kids have already seen examples of how I am going to be at the end of the year and my career– a basket case. We are learning the meaning of the words touched and moved when referring to emotions! Thank you for all of the generous things you have done for me over the year and are still doing!!! Sweet little acts of kindness are showing up each day! You are sneaky and so generous!
Today we had a meeting to discuss the sleepover. There is a letter in today’s mail also. We are all excited about Friday night! Thanks to those of you who have volunteered to help. You will be contacted by a second grade parent.
Several books are coming home today. The handwriting booklets will show you how one is to sit and hold his/her pencil. I will also send a booklet of practice sheets to use over the summer. The science workbook and thin social studies SOL practice booklets are coming. You can see that they have not been used much. They may be a good form of review. The thin green social studies SOL booklet is a 3rd grade resource. They had extras so we took them to let your child see what they can expect next year. As the days dwindle, we will clean out desks and also send home folders that were not used this year.
Language Arts: We will read books relating to Field Day and the Sleepover. We will write comics and read about the circus. We will read The One in the Middle is the Green Kangaroo by Judy Blume and compare her writing to Beverly Cleary who wrote our recent read aloud book Ramona Quimby, Age 8. We will read Summer Sands and each child will get a summer journal to use to record summer activities. In the back of the journal are my home and e-mail addresses. I hope that each child will write to me over the summer. I will write back! We will work on our Second Grade Scrapbook to send home the last week. It will be full of memories!
Math: We had our Unit 11 test on Friday. We will spend the next weeks reviewing time, counting money, writing money amounts and making change, place value, and +/- regrouping. We will take an end of year assessment to send to third grade.
Social Science: Learning about Egypt is fun! We have painted King Tut’s headdress in GOLD! We have written in hieroglyphics, made a cartouche, and constructed a pyramid. We will end the year by discussing diversity.
