Board Feet Formulas: W x T x L'/12 or W x T x L"/144
Problems should be set up as follows: w=6", t=3/4" L=12'
W x T x L'/12 = 6 x .75 x 12'/12
=4.5 x 12/12
=54/12
= 4.5 brd. ft._
Students design their projects from the basic elevation drawings,a material data sheet to brd. feet calculations. The above formulas are used often. This way they know every step to building their project before they find their type of wood they want.
