Note: Students who are absent on days we read and discuss literature assignments are responsible for meeting with the teacher and for completing all assignments they have missed.
English 1160 students will read, discuss assigned readings; complete vocabulary studies and study guide questions.
Additionally, students will begin the NRCC credited course, SDV 100. Students were given NRCC application for registration Mon., Jan. 30, 2012. Completed registration is due to Mrs. Tonya Vaden Tues., Feb. 7, 2012 during Mrs. Nicholson's English 1160 class. the course will cover life/career skills including: career interest inventory, resume writing, business cover letter prep, job searches, interview protocol, and a scheduled mock job interview. Students who earn a C or higher will receive one hour's credit at New River Community College.
Eng. 1160 students will finish study of Anglo-Saxon literature and the epic Beowulf. They will write essays about life as a teen in Anglo-Saxon times. Students will read and study medieval ballads. Students will work in groups to compose two ballads for presentation.
Sudents will review/practice grammar skills and/or composition writing approximately 30 minutes of each classroom session.

Yearbook Staff for 20111-2012 must finish main yearbook by deadline of Feb. 10th. Staffers will then begin work on the spring supplement, which includes all spring sports, prom, and graduation.
Yearbook staff responsibilities include:
ad sales, fundraising, familiarity with the Jostens online site, confidentiality requirements, cover design, page design, design and writing theme focus, page assignment procedure/deadlines, photography assignments--all responsibilities are reflected in each staffer's course grade.
NOTE: During snow days (or any days when yearbook staffers are not in school), staffers are expected to continue their yearbook assignments from home, online.
Deadlines do not change, despite time away from class.
Grades will be based on completion of pages and quality of work by deadline date.
