APPLIED PHYSICAL SCIENCE
1st and 2nd Periods

  Please don't hesitate to ask for help.  Mrs. Dudding and I are here before and after school and some of you are also in Basic Skills class.

Second Six Weeks Oct. 14-Nov. 25
Report Cards will be handed out during 7th period on Tuesday, Oct. 20!

Oct.19-23  We will be working on lab activities most of the week.  The lab on length and area will be completed on Monday, followed by the lab focusing on  using a triple beam balance to measure mass on Tuesday and Wednesday. Lessons 1-5 through 1-7 must be completed for homework.

Oct. 26-30  Due to a higher increase in flu, lab activities will be suspended for the week.  Students should complete Lesson 1-7 for homework, along with review pages 16-19 this week.

Nov. 2-4  We will be working in the computer lab for 3 days this week on states of matter.  We will complete Lesson 1-7 before leaving on our 4 hour early release.
PARENT-TEACHER CONFERENCES: I'm looking forward to meeting your parents from 1-7 on Thursday and 9-12 on Friday.  If you need to visit at another time, please call or email me.  

EARTH SCIENCE Classes
  4th and 6th Periods

WELCOME to a class which studies so many neat topics of interest rolled into one class!
    
   Independent Study?
   Did you hear about the recent earthquake  in Indonesia?    Were you aware that we live in an earthquake zone right here in Giles County?  Our largest quake occurred on May 31, 1897 and measured 5.9 on the Richter.  Please research additional information on this topic at your leisure

EARTHQUAKE IN GILES????????
   Reports of an earthquake in Eastern Giles County on Jan. 24, 2007 did not register on seismic equipment at VA Tech.  Instead, a small meteroite about the size of a grapefruit was credited for causing a sonic boom.  For more information, visit "beyond the forecast" on www.wdbj7.com as reported by Brent Watts.

Second Six Weeks  Oct. 14-Nov. 25
Report Cards will be given out on Tuesday, Oct. 20 during 7th period classes.

****Don't forget to continue the Astronomy Project Daily until Dec. 15.  Please watch for changes in the moon's phases along with other interesting observations.

Oct. 19-23  The week will be spent working on information concerning the universe and galaxies.  Chapters 31 and 29 vocabulary terms need to be defined in your own terms by Wednesday.  We will do the Big Bang Lab in class. Chapter 31 questions on page 838 #'s 1-6 and page 846 #'s 1-5 need to be done by Friday.

Oct. 26-30  Page 838 and 846 questions need to be done by many of you----again in complete sentences as directed.  In our workbook, do pages 195-198.  Those of you who are ill, will have class notes to make up once you're back.

Nov.2-5  We will be in computer lab working on our planet projects all week.  I look forward to seeing you and your parents during conferences from 1-7 on Thursday or 9-12 on Friday.  Please don't hesitate to request another time if these scheduled periods are unsuitable.

APPLIED EARTH SCIENCE
5th Period

I hope you are enjoying this class!  There are so many different topics to study and Giles County is the perfect science classroom.

*****Don't forget to continue doing the Astronomy Project DAILY on your own.  Moon and planet observations along with other neat data needs to be recorded and reported back in class until Dec. 15.

Oct.19-23 We will be working on the universe and galaxies content.  The Big Bang Lab will be conducted on Tuesday.  Homework for the week includes Workbook pages 81-83 and lab questions completed by Wednesday, page 96 done by Thursday and begin working on pages 89-91 at the end of the week.

Oct. 26-30  Those of you who have not completed the above assignment due to illness should make it up as soon as you possibly can.  Chapter 29 vocabulary words need to also be defined.

Nov. 2-5  We will be working in computer lab for 3 days on our planet projects.  Please come out for Parent-Teacher conferences from 1-7 on Thursday or 9-12 on Friday.  I look forward to meeting with you!
